Test Conditions:
QAI Laboratories Ltd. (QAI) was retained by Sunview Patio Doors Ltd. to perform testing in accordance with the
mandatory test requirements of AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440-17 NAFS - North American Fenestration
Standard / Specification for windows, doors and skylights and A440S1-19 Canadian Supplement to
AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440-17 NAFS - North American Fenestration Standard / Specification for
windows, doors and skylights on a representative sample of a 2407 mm (94-3/4″) wide by 2391 mm (94-1/8″)
high aluminum sliding glass door. This report includes tests performed on a specimen of specific dimensions.
Actual product performance may be affected by variations in the products dimensions, assembly details and
installation method. The assembly drawings and detailed profile drawings supplied by Sunview Patio Doors Ltd.
were verified by QAI for the unit tested and are shown in Appendix A.

The test specimen was installed by Sunview into a wood test buck as described below. A bead of silicone
sealant was applied between the door frame and the wooden test buck on the exterior. The frame was fastened
to the wooden test buck as follows: There were five #8 x 2" long flat head screws installed along each interior
jamb track, and five installed along each exterior jamb track (the heads of these fasteners along the fixed jamb
were sealed with silicone), nominally 510 mm (20″) to 560 mm (22″) apart o/c. An additional two #10 x 1-3/4"
long pan head screws also secured the lock keeper. Three #10 x 1-3/4" long pan head screws were installed
along the inner head track, spaced nominally 1016 mm (40") apart o/c. Five #10 x 1-3/4" long pan head screws
were installed along the outer head track, spaced nominally 508 mm (40") apart o/c. Along the sill, a section of
38 mm x 38 mm x 4.8 mm (1-1/2" x 1-1/2" x 3/16") aluminum angle measuring nominally 305 mm (12") long
anchored the interior of the sill to the adjacent buck at mid-width. Three #10 x 3/4" long flat head screws
fastened the angle to the interior face of the sill on nominal 127 mm (5") centres, the heads of the fasteners
being countersunk into the angle. Three #8 x 2" long flat head screws fastened the angle to the buck, the
fastener heads countersunk into the angle. At the fastener locations along the jamb, 32 mm (1-1/4") wide cedar
shims measuring 114 mm (4-1/2") long were fitted between the buck and door frame. Along the head, 32 mm (1-
1/4") wide cedar shims measuring 114 mm (4-1/2") long were fitted between the buck and door frame only at the
fasteners at the ends of the head. Six 152 mm (6") long by 114 mm (4-1/2") wide by 9.5 mm (3/8") thick plywood
shims supported the sill, located 229 mm (9"), 635 mm (25"), and 1054 mm (41-1/2") o/c either side of mid-width.

The wooden test buck consisted of an outer perimeter frame 2x10 SPF lumber with a 2x2 SPF lumber extension
on the interior. The sill of the buck was lined with an inner section of 2x6 SPF lumber spanning the jambs, the
inner edge of the 2x6 flush with the inner edge of the 2x10. The test specimen was leveled and set plumb in the
wooden test buck and fastened as above. The exposed exterior surface of the buck was sealed with a silicone-
based waterproof coating.

The sample size tested was larger than the CW Class Gateway test size of 2400 mm x 2100 mm (~94-1.2" x 82-
11/16"). The larger test sample size is considered to be the worse-case scenario condition and therefore the test
results of the larger tested sample are also applicable to the smaller Gateway size. The tested size is the largest
for which compliance is sought.

Drainage: Panels: Each Panel: The sill glazing spline drained to the sill rail via three
rectangular slots measuring 6.4 mm (1/4") wide by the full width of the
spline. These slots were located approximately 165 mm (6-1/2") o/c from
each end of the spline, and at approximate mid-width. The ends of the
“floor” of the channel were also ‘V’-notched, the notch measuring 8 mm
(5/16") by the width of the spline.
The sill rail drained to the sill rail cavity via a 9.5 mm (3/8") wide by 6.4 mm
(1/4") deep notch at each end of the sill rail as well as via two 4.8 mm
(3/16") diameter holes located 152 mm (6") o/c from the adjacent end of
the rail.
The sill rail cavity drained to the respective sill track via the openings for
the panel rollers, where the crimped thermal break terminated 152 mm (6")
from the adjacent end of the rail.
Sill: Inner-most Track- Drains to track to exterior of roller track leg via two 19
mm (3/4") long by 6.4 mm (1/4") high slots, each located at the end of the
track, and a third slot measuring 30 mm (1-1/8") wide by 6.4 mm (1/4") high
located at approximate mid-width.
Middle Track (to exterior of roller track leg)- Three 25.4 mm (1") long by 6.4
mm (1/4") high slots complete with weep inserts having flaps (SIL Plastics
Part No. 109) drained the middle sill track to the exterior sill track (beneath
the threshold cover). These drains slots were located 140 mm (5-1/2"), 502
mm (19-3/4"), and 897 mm (35-5/16") o/c from the operating panel end of
the sill.
Exterior Sill Track- Three 27.8 mm (1-1/16") long by 6.4 mm (1/4") high
slots complete with weep inserts having flaps (SIL Plastics Part No. 109)
drained the exterior sill track to the exterior. They were located 216 mm (8-
1/2") on centre from the adjacent end of the sill and at mid-width.
The screen track drained to the exterior by two 5.6 mm (7/32") diameter
holes located 111 mm (4-3/8") on centre from the lock jamb.
