Feasibility of Cardava pseudo-stem fiber as an eco-bag

Introduction:

This physical science research study investigates the feasibility of using

Cardava pseudo-stem fibers as a sustainable alternative for eco-friendly bag

production. By studying the mechanical properties, durability and environmental

impact of Cardava pseudo-stem fibers, this research aims to contribute to the

development of eco-bags that reduce reliance on traditional, non-biodegradable

materials. This study promises to promote environmentally conscious practices in the

field of bag manufacturing and is in line with the urgent need for environmentally

conscious solutions to combat plastic pollution and reduce the carbon footprint of

everyday products.

Methodology:

1. Preparation of Cardava’s pseudo-stem

 Start by sourcing Cardava pseudo-stems from local banana plantations.

Provide a diverse sample to account for natural variations in fiber quality.

 Extract fibers from the pseudo-stems using conventional mechanical methods

such as scraping or retting. Determine the most effective extraction method

through preliminary testing.

 Perform tests to characterize the extracted fibers. Evaluate properties such as

tensile strength, flexibility, moisture absorption and biodegradability to

determine their suitability for bag production.

  Develop eco-bag prototypes with the optimized fiber blend. Use techniques

such as weaving, knitting or non-woven fabric methods to make the bags.

 Subject the eco-bags to various tests, including load-bearing capacity, tear

resistance, and biodegradability assessments. Compare the performance of

Cardava pseudo-stem fiber bags to conventional plastic bags and other eco-

bag alternatives.

Timeline:

This study will be finished 3-4 weeks as we research findings and highlight the

environmental benefits and commercial potential of Cardava eco-bags made from

pseudo-stem fibers as a sustainable alternative to traditional plastic bags.
