CHAPTER 1

HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED WHAT WILL GONNA HAPPEN IF

OUR COUNTRY IS FULL OF PLASTIC WASTE? WHAT DO YOU
THINK WILL HAPPEN IF THAT DAY COMES?, THAT IS WHY IT IS
IMPORTANT TO REDUCE USING PLASTIC IN WRAPPING FOOD
BUT THE QUESTION IS HOW CAN WE FIX THE MODERN WORLD
PROBLEM WHICH IS PLASTIC WASTE? WHEN WE SAY PLASTIC
WASTE IT IS PLASTIC THAT HAS BEEN USED AT HOME, AT
SCHOOL, AT THE GROCERY STORE, AND EVEN IN OUR DAILY
LIVES WE USE IT. IN THIS STUDY WE WILL HAVE A
EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH WHERE WE WILL CREATE A EDIBLE
CANDY WRAPPER USING TARO.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

 This study will talk about the common problem not only in Iloilo City but in other
regions and even in our country. This has led to the researcher to find an alternative
way to reduce the number of plastic waste. Researchers concluded a natural
method to create an edible candy wrapper.

 Today's generation is called the plastic age (Thomson et al., 2009). Too much use
of plastic and disposal of plastic is becoming a major threat to our community,
even in our country. The major factors for today’s condition of the ecosystem are
reason is unnecessary to use of plastic, improper dumping, excessive use of single-
use plastic, and lack of awareness.
That leads a recent researcher to make an edible and biodegradable
plastic wrapper to replace plastic with available natural resources
that you can find at your place or anywhere. Although they already
found the right materials and procedures to make an edible plastic
wrapper.

Our study will be covering making an edible plastic wrapper. Taro

starch will be a natural way to make an edible plastic wrapper with
papaya and coconut gata as soy protein.
GENERAL OBJECTIVE
 Utilizing Giant Taro to create an edible candy wrapper.

 SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE
 1. MAKE STARCH USING A TARO
 2. PRODUCING AN EDIBLE CANDY WRAPPER USING A
STRCH FROM A TARO, PAPAYA, AND COCONUT AS A
SOURCE OF PROTEIN
HYPOTHESIS
 There is a significant difference between taro
[ colocasia esculenta], papaya, and coconut as
edible wrappers classified according to their
elasticity and strength.
DEFINITION OF TERMS

 EDIBLE FILMS
 ARE generally made up of particular compositions which include film-forming
materials, plasticized, antimicrobial agents, and some additives [ Dhumaand
Saikari,2018]
SIGNIFICANT OF THE STUDY
 VENDOR
-The direct recipient of this study is the vendor that sells Taro, Papaya, and Coconut.
 FARMER
- It benefits to do farmers to produce Taro, Papaya, and Coconut.
 ENVIRONMENT
 -The result of this study will help the environment by decreasing the amount of plastic
waste.
 PEOPLE

-The result of this study will decrease the number of sick people affected by plastic
waste pollution
BUSINESSMAN
It benefits businessmen that produce a product
using the wrap, instead of using plastic they will use
edible films to wrap their product.

FUTURE RESEARCHERS

This research study will serve as a point

of reference for studies
In the same field in the future.
SCOPE AND LIMITATION

 The scope of this experimental research study is to

test the elasticity and straightness of an edible plastic
wrapper made from Taro, papaya, and coconut
shredded. Additionally, the study will explore the
nutrients found in taro, papaya, and coconut and their
potential to enhance growth. It will measure their
strength and elasticity over some time.
CHAPTER 2

 Taro (Colocasia esculenta)

 Is a tropical tuber crop largely produced for its

underground corms contain 70–80 % starch and the
corms of Colocasia antiquorum contain anthocyanins
such as cyanidin-3-glucoside, pelargonidin-3-
glucoside, and cyanidin-3-chemokine which were
reported of having antioxidative anti-inflammatory
properties It.(Kaushal et.al , 2015)

SYNTHESIS:

 The summary of this study is making an edible candy
wrapper using a giant taro instead of using a plastic
wrapper and it can be a more eco-friendly solution to
decrease the increasing amount of plastic waste. As the
previous researcher didn’t use a giant taro to create an
edible candy wrapper. The researchers have a solution to
the gap that the previous researcher failed to address.
