Clean Seas

STS
Clean seas is North of England’s
loss prevention initiative to promote
good practice and compliance
with environmental legislation.
Clean seas require vessels
conducting ship to ship operations
to have an STS operations plan
in place that is in approved by
their Flag State administration.
Clean seas demand that there
is a person in overall advisory
control of the STS operation that
is properly qualified to perform
all relevant duties.
Clean seas are dependent
on properly trained personnel on
deck who have been fully briefed
prior to the operation commencing.
Clean seas are dependent on
deck equipment, including transfer
hoses, fenders and moorings,
being properly rigged, utilised and
certified for their specific function.
Clean seas can only be achieved
by adopting good working practices
on board.
