Chapter 1

Experiment - 1

1.1 Objective

Analyze and Simulate BER performance of BPSK/QPSK signal over AWGN channel..

1.2 Theory

BER performance over AWGN channel

a) A BPSK modulated signal with power P = Eb is transmitted over (AWGN) Additive White Gaussian
Channel is affected by various types of noise, like thermal noise. This noise is additive in nature, has flat
spectrum(white - uncorrelated), has gaussian PDF(probability density function). Y = P · X + V where
X is BPSK signal and V is gaussian noise N(µ, 2 ).

b) The PDF of V is given by P(V ) = 1 2 · pi · 2 · exp( v µ 2 · 2 )

c) The BER expression (from the figure) for BER over BPSK is given by Q( r P 2 )

1.4 Results
1.Graphical results show the improvement in BPSK and its performance in the AWGN channel the
graphical results show that the simulated BER of BPSK is the same as the theoretical BER of BPSK

2.we also evaluated the binary phase shift keying modulation technique in order to observe it perfor-
mance against the binary phase shift keying in an additive white Gaussian noise channel. The results
obtained from this comparative analysis shows that the binary phase shift keying has a better bit error
rate compared to phase shift keying modulation method.
