1 Unit 1: Differential Calculus - II

1.1 Topic: Maxima/Minima of multi-valued functions
⋆ Problem Statement :
We are interested in finding an optimal place for setting up a radio telescope
for the space agency of our country. But the magnetic field of our planet can
affect the data that it reads, as it is a radio telescope. Our task is to minimise
the interference of the magnetic field of the planet with our radio telescope.

⋆ For this, we will assume the center of our planet as the origin of our co-
ordinate system , and will be given the function M ( x, y, z) of magnetic field
at any point (x, y, z) accordingly.
⋆ Obviously, we will erect the radio telescope a point above the avreage sea
level, and also below a particular height. ( The height of the setting up of radio
telescope should be achievable by current technological advancements.)

2 Unit 2: Integral Calculus - II

2.1 Topic: Triple Integrals’ Application
⋆ Problem Statement :
Given a solid shape, we can find the associated center of mass, and moments of
inertia along a particular axis for physical significance.

2.2 Topic: Double Integration and Substitution
3 UNIT 3: VECTOR CALCULUS

2.2 Topic: Double Integration and Substitution

⋆ Problem statement : Beyond the gaussian integral
In the previous semester’s project , we had presented the Gaussian Integral :
R ∞ −x2
−∞
e dx

This can be solved by polar substitution in double integrals, and this integral
is helpful in determining various such related integrals, such as :
R∞ 2

−∞
(1 − e−1/x ) dx

⋆ The Gaussian Integral is very useful in a number of fields : such as Normal

Distribution in Probability and Statistics.
