Data

1. Mode - the value that appears most in a set of data

2. Mean - The arithmetic average. It is found by dividing the sum of all of the numbers in a
set of data with the number that shows how many of those numbers are there.
3. Median - The middle value in a set of data
4. Range - The difference between the highest and the lowest value in a set of data.

Example:
Given the set of numbers: 1, 2 ,1, 2, 5, 5, 7, 5, 2, 2, 1
Find the median, mean, mode and range.

Solution:
1. Order the numbers from smallest to largest 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 5, 5, 5, 7
2. Mean: 3
1 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 7 = 33, 33:11=3
3. Median: 2
4. Mode: 2
5. Range: 7 - 1 = 6

Probability
Probability is the chance of something happening

𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑑𝑒𝑠𝑖𝑟𝑒𝑑 𝑜𝑢𝑡𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑠

Probability = 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑡𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑜𝑢𝑡𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑠

Example: There are 6 blue and 8 pink lollipops in a box. What is the probability of picking up a
pink one?
Answer: The number of desirable outcomes is 8 - the number of of pink lollipops
The total number of the outcomes is 14 - both blue and pink
8 4
Therefore the answer is
14
= 7

3D shapes

1. The 3D shapes are divided into three groups: prisms, pyramids and other solids

2. A Net of a 3D shape - is what the shape looks like if it is opened out flat. When we fold
the net we get the 3D shape.

3. Prism - a 3D shape that has identical and parallel

faces (the first row of the image)

4. Pyramid - a 3D shape that has triangular faces that

meet at a vertex (the second row of the image)

5. Other solids are shapes that are not pyramids nor

prisms, like for example a cone, a cylinder and a
sphere (the third row of the image)

● Face - a flat or a curved 2D shape surrounded

by edges and vertices.
● The edge - the boundary between faces
● Vertex - a point where the edges meet

Names of 3D shapes

Cube, Cuboid,
Triangular
prism, Sphere,
Tetrahedron -
Triangular
pyramid,
Square-based
pyramid,
Cylinder, Cone

The prisms are named by the shapes of their end faces.

For example, the triangular prism is called by its end faces which are triangles.

The pyramid are named by the shape of their base (the face opposite of the vertex)
For example, the square based pyramid is called by the square at the bottom.
