Understanding Learner diversity and adopting strategies for advanced and slow learners
Summary
The University is conscious of the different learning needs of all its students. Healthy academic autonomy given to each constituent
ensures the freedom to design policies and devise learner diversity strategies for identification and development of advanced and slow
learners, keeping in mind the specific programme requirements. While student-centric pedagogies and outcome-based curricula ensure
an inclusive framework of academic engagement, early identification and customized strategies for capacity building of learners helps
in catering to the needs of both advanced and slow learners. The University is home to students studying in 36 constituents across
domains including Law, Management, Computer Studies, Health and Biological Sciences, Media and Communication, Engineering,
Humanities and Social Sciences, Design and Architecture. The programmes offered under each faculty come with their unique
programme requirements and hence require tailored assessment tools and strategies. While a very healthy demand ratio and a pan
India selection process ensures a meritorious pool of students for each institute to choose from, the faculty is conscious of the fact that
their classrooms are not homogenous in terms of learning abilities and styles. A summary of the various identification tools
undertaken in the academic year 2019-20 for the freshly enrolled students (see table:1) is testament to the holistic understanding of
learner diversity and the University’s commitment to cater to the needs of all its students, including advanced and slow learners.
The process flow of assessment of learning levels and conducting programmes for advanced learners and slow learners is as follows
