Family: Myrtaceae
 •Origin
• Australia now cultivated
in south France , Spain
and Portugal.
Perennial large trees(100m) height ,
with grayish white bark, leaves are
glabrous, thin, scythe-shaped and
wax-coated.
Taste: slightly bitter, aromatic
,pungent, astringent & cooling .
Odor: aromatic (strong) and
camphoraceous
 Chemical constituents:
1- Eucalyptus v.o (3%-6%)from it
a- 85% cineole (colorless liquid with
aromatic (camphor like ) odor, pungent
&cooling taste.
(decreased biliary and renal colic's)
b- Eucalyptol – decongestant.
2- Resins.
3- Tannins( tannic acid).
4-Flavonoid:Quercetin-anti inflammatory.
 General uses:
1- Antibacterial activity (antiseptic) used
in following cases:
a) Tonsillitis.
b) Mouth & throat problems (sores)
(cankers)
c) Gingivitis and stomatitis.
d) Halitosis.
e) Vaginal infections.
f) In the treatments of the infections in
the upper respiratory system.
2- Has mild anesthetic effect .
3- Flavoring agent .
4- Cooling agent .

1- Strepsils® (Blue): (Boots): lozenges:
Indication: mouth antiseptic
2- Gingisan® :Teva (liquid, ointment)- gingivitis
& stomatitis .
3- Ment-o-cap® (Rekah): Cream
ingredients: Eucalyptus oil+Pinus oil +Capsicum
extract.
Indications : rheumatism, muscle pains and
chest colds .
4- Deep heat® :Menthol + Eucalyptus oil
indication: muscle pains.
5- Albocal® : (Jerusalem Pharmaceuticals)
(Eucalyptus oil +Menthol + Thymol +
Methyl salicylate ). Powder (sachets).
Indications: vaginal antiseptic (douche).
6- Mentholatum Balm®
(Eucalyptus oil +Camphor+ Pine oil
+Menthol +Methyl salicylate).
Indications: Relief of stuffy nose , colds
and hay fever.
