Define what is Pre-Writing

Introduction:
“To Do” 1. Begin by asking the students if they know what it means to write a story or
draw a picture.
2. Explain that before we write or draw, there are some things we can do to
help us get ready. This is called "pre-writing."
Development:
Discussion
3. Write the word "pre-writing" on the board and explain that it's like getting
ready to tell a story or write something.
4. Discuss different ways we can pre-write, such as talking about our ideas,
drawing pictures, or brainstorming words.
5. Show a picture book and ask students how they think the author might have
prepared to write the story. Encourage them to think about pre-writing.

Pre-Writing Activities
6. Break the class into small groups (3-4 students each).
7. Provide each group with a picture book and ask them to look at the pictures
and discuss what they think might have happened before the story in the book.
8. Have each group share their ideas with the class.

Brainstorming
9. Write a simple story starter prompt on the board, such as "Once upon a time,
I found a magic ________."
10. Ask students to brainstorm ideas for the story. Write their ideas on the
board.
11. Emphasize that it's okay to have wild and creative ideas during pre-writing.

Independent Activity
12. Provide each student with a blank sheet of writing paper and a pencil.
13. Ask them to choose one of the story starter ideas from the board or come
up with their own.
14. Instruct students to draw a picture that goes with their story idea.

Closure: Gather the students back together and have a few students share their
pictures and story ideas.

Assignment: Conclusion: Students will create their own pre- Writing from story prompt.
