TROPIMUNDUS Scholarship Committee
Subject: Application for Scholarship in Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in Tropical Biodiversity and Ecosystems Dear Members of the TROPIMUNDUS Scholarship Committee, I am writing to express my strong interest and motivation to be considered for the TROPIMUNDUS scholarship to pursue the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's Degree in Tropical Biodiversity and Ecosystems. I believe that my academic background, research experiences, and passion for ecosystems and biodiversity in general and for tropical biodiversity and ecosystems in particular make me an ideal candidate for this prestigious scholarship. I have always been fascinated by the complex beauty and ecological significance of tropical ecosystems. From the dense rainforests to the savannah, the tropics represent the climax of biodiversity. It is this deep appreciation for the spectacles of ecosystems particularly tropical ecosystems that have inspired my academic and career choices. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Geomatics and land use planning from the Faculty of Science and Technology of Beni Mellal (the University of Sultan Moulay Slimane) and actually studying in my 4 years class at the National School of Forest Engineers, Sale, Morocco (preparing for an application engineering diploma in general forestry), where I have developed my knowledge and skills in the fields of terrestrial ecology, limnology, and the use of remote sensing and GIS tools. My academic adventure has provided me with a solid foundation in the biological and environmental sciences, as well as the technical expertise necessary to excel in the study of tropical ecosystems. During my undergraduate studies, I had the privilege of working on a research project for my Bachelor's that has allowed me to explore the complexities of an ecosystem and its evolution. I conducted a research project titled "Analysis of landcover changes in the Oum Er Rabia watershed (Morocco) using Google Earth Engine" which involved using satellite images (Landsat images) to elaborate NDVI maps based on which I did a supervised classification (with classes: Forest, cultivated land, water bodies and bare Land.) to determine the rate of changes for 1984, 2000, 2013, and 2019 and established the map of landcover for those selected years. This experience not only enhanced my understanding of ecology, human activities, and climate change effects on an ecosystem but also demonstrated my ability to apply advanced technologies, such as remote sensing and GIS, to address complex ecological questions. I am particularly Attracted to the TROPIMUNDUS program because of its interdisciplinary approach, which allows students to gain a comprehensive understanding of tropical biodiversity and ecosystems. The opportunity to collaborate with experts in various fields, conduct fieldwork in diverse tropical regions, and contribute to innovative research matches perfectly my career aspirations. Additionally, it enables students to learn and open up to new cultures. My long-term goal is to become a leading researcher in ecosystems and biodiversity conservation and management and advocate for tropical ecosystem defense. I envision exploiting my education and experiences to contribute to the sustainable management and protection of tropical ecosystems, especially through the innovative use of remote sensing and GIS. I am deeply passionate about tropical biodiversity and ecosystems, and I am committed to making a meaningful contribution to the field. The TROPIMUNDUS scholarship would provide me with the essential resources and support to realize my lively dreams and contribute to the conservation and scientific understanding of tropical ecosystems. Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to joining the TROPIMUNDUS program for a new academic journey and bringing my contributions to this program. Sincerely,
