SOCCER
A game played by two teams of
eleven players with a round ball
that may not be touched with
the hands or arms during play
except by the goalkeepers. The
object of the game is to score
goals by kicking or heading the
ball into the opponents' goal.

Mechanics
When the ball is in play the rules of
soccer are fairly simple. You cannot
touch the ball with your hands or arms
intentionally unless you are the goalie.
You cannot foul another player or be
offside. Other than that, the main rules
of soccer are around the starting and
stopping of play.
LANGIT LUPA

Langit-lupa is chasing game, a

variation of habulan where
players can be immune from
being tagged as long they
stand on an elevated surface

GAME MECHANICS
The players can climb or step onto an
elevated space such as a flight of stairs, on
top of a table, or simply dangle from a
jungle gym which is considered as the
"langit". Players who manage this are
immune from being tagged. Meanwhile,
players who are on the flat ground or
"lupa" are prone in being tagged and soon
becomes the "it".
SIPA NG PATINTERO

These traditional Filipino

games involve running and
changing directions.

GAME MECHANICS
Patintero is played either on an open field or in a
covered court. The players draw a rectangular
grid of 5 to 6 meters (16 to 20 feet) long, and 4
meters (13 feet) wide. The larger the number of
players, the bigger the rectangle they make. The
rectangle is further subdivided into 4 to 6 equal
parts by drawing one central line lengthwise and
1 or 2 lines crosswise. It’s important that the
individual squares formed inside the grid are big
enough for the Passers Team to stay in the middle
and out of reach of the guards.

ACCELERATION
Whack-a-Stack

A simple stack of wood blocks

demonstrates that an object at
rest will remain at rest unless a
force causes it to move.

Game Mechanics
Hold the meter stick, slender PVC pipe,
or other suitable "whacker" along the
tabletop, near the stack of blocks.
Firmly and rapidly whack the meter
stick back and forth just above the
tabletop—with each whack, knock
another block out from the bottom of
the stack.

GAME MECHANICS
Applying a lot of force, with a good
hard squeeze, caused the tube to
rush right to the top of the skewer,
and strike the bell. Mind you the
sound of the bottle being squeezed
was nearly as loud as the sound of
the bell being struck...
Marshmallow
Puff Tube
To explore acceleration and
unbalanced forces, grab a
marshmallow, some flour, a file
folder, and a bit of tape. We love
that this can be a very simple
demonstration of Newton's second
law or be pushed even further to
explore acceleration and friction.

GAME MECHANICS
Roll the marshmallow in flour, then shake
it or tap it to remove any excess (this will
help prevent the marshmallow from
sticking to the tube).
Place the marshmallow in one end of the
tube. Hold the other end of the tube up to
your mouth, parallel to the floor, and
blow hard into the tube.

OF
INTERACTION
MARBLE MOMENTUM
This particular marble experiment
allows you to differentiate
according to your students'
understanding and interest. Keep
pushing your experimentation
using a different number of
marbles or even different sizes,
then push it even further by using
skateboards described later in
these directions.

GAME MECHANICS
The game starts with an empty board.
Starting with Red, players take turns
dropping a marble of their color on any
empty cell on the board. The
momentum of the dropped marble is
transferred in all eight (orthogonal and
diagonal) directions through adjacent
contiguous lines of marbles (of any
color).
ROWING
Rowing, sometimes called crew in
the United States, is the sport of
racing boats using oars. It differs
from paddling sports in that
rowing oars are attached to the
boat using oarlocks, while paddles
are not connected to the boat.
Rowing is divided into two
disciplines: sculling and sweep

GAME MECHANICS
The objective of rowing is simple: the
boat that reaches the finish line first is
declared the winner of the race.
Reaching the finish line in the quickest
possible time requires an astonishing
amount of physical and mental
strength, high levels of stamina and
seamless synchronisation when
competing in team events.
TUG OF WAR
Tug of war is a sport that pits
two teams against each other
in a test of strength: teams pull
on opposite ends of a rope,
with the goal being to bring the
rope a certain distance in one
direction against the force of
the opposing team's pull.

GAME MECHANICS
An equal number of players pick up each end of
the rope. The players begin tugging the rope
when the referee gives the signal. Each player
pulls backwards as hard as they can. The teams
continue pulling until the center of the rope
(tape mark) crosses where the referee is
standing.
