Task 1:
Answer the following:
1. Describe the manifestations of drug dependency in terms of the following:
a. Physical – Dependency on drugs affects mood, shapes perception, and changes behavior.
The emotional and psychological aspects of drug addiction very every bit as powerful and life-
altering as the physical effects of substance dependence, and all must be accounted for if treatment
is to succeed.

b. Psychological and Emotional - Drug addiction alters perception, can distort thinking,
creates emotional imbalances, it causes victims to feel low about themselves.
The psychological and emotional characteristics of drug addiction include:
• Abrupt Changes in mood
• Decrease in ability to enjoy formerly pleasurable activities.
• Rationalization and denial
• Stronger symptoms of mental illness
• Hallucinations and delusions
• Impulsivity

c. Behavioral - Although drug addicts' inner thoughts may be difficult to understand, their
actions will be clear indications of their drug dependence and the turmoil and despair it is causing
in their lives.

2. Explain why the youth must be educated on the matter of illegal drugs.
- Knowing how drugs affect people is unquestionably a valuable skill. The key to the prevention
strategy is knowing how drugs affect the body, the short- and long-term effects of substance abuse,
and any potential risk factors. Experts in the field of substance abuse have access to more
information as a result of ongoing research that aims to educate the general public about the
dangers posed by drug abuse and illegal substances. Drug education isn't just for teachers or
advocates and counselors for drug-free living. The information gleaned from addiction specialists
and researchers is beneficial to everyone. It can aid in the development of safe and effective
treatments and cut down on the likelihood of an increase in substance abuse rates throughout a
community.
