Chronological order

Chronological order is an arrangement of events in the order of their


happening or based on the time they have occurred. Years and dates are
some of the signifiers used in chronological order.
Why is it called chronological order?
It comes from the Greek words chronos (time) and logos (word). The
adjective is chronological. Putting events in chronological order means:
listing them in the order in which they happened.

What is chronological order used for?


There are different uses for chronological order. For example, biographies
and autobiographies are arranged using chronological order. Another
example would be a history book

How do you write in chronological order


When using chronological order, arrange the events in the order that they
actually happened, or will happen if you are giving instructions. This
method requires you to use words such as first, second, then, after that,
later, and finally.

Types of chronological order


Chronological, Sequential, and Consecutive Order

Chronological order usually refers to how things happen in order of time.


The segments of time may go forward or backward.
This pattern works well when telling a story.
People tell historical events in chronological order. Also explaining how
something happens or works is in chronological order.
Chronological order may recount a series of events that happened over
time. Chronological order organizes events from one point in time to
another.

Chronological order in a text


Chronology is a text structure that describes events in the order they occur. Words such as first,
next, during, and finally signal this text structure, as do dates that tell when the events
happened.

Time order word


The time order words 'first', 'after that', 'then', and 'finally' help to bring the events together and
tell you which ones happened first, second, third and last.
Example: Malika and Sam went out on Sunday. They met each other at 5:00 pm. Then they
walked to a nearby movie theater and watched a movie from 5:30 to 7:00.

SEQUENCIAL ORDER
Sequencers are words that organize your writing and speaking, words like
first , next , then , after that , and finally .
A sequence is a set of numbers in a particular order or a set of numbers
that follow a pattern. The most basic sequential order example is that
of counting numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on.

CONSECUTIVE ORDER

Consecutive order means one after the other. This may be a period of
time such as days. Any regular time intervals such as each year, each
month, and so on are consecutive over. Consecutive order often refers to
numbers.

An example of consecutive numbers would be 1, 2, 3 or 9, 10, 11.


Consecutive order is not a writing style.
