Activity Type Introduction


Grammar and Writing Here is a useful present continuous worksheet for elementary

Give each student a copy of the two-page worksheet. Read
through how to use the present continuous tense and review the

Level Exercise B - Answer key

Elementary (A1-A2) Hi Olivia, it's Tim. I'm at the Sport's Bar with Harry. We are
watching the football game. Manchester United isn't playing
very well. They are losing 3 - 1. What are you doing? Call

30 minutes Hi, this is Mia. Sophia and I aren't working today. We are
staying at home. At the moment, I am cleaning the house,
and Sophia is watching TV. I hope you are not working too.
Why don't you come over? Give me a call.
Hey Olivia, this is Paul. I am calling from the airport. I am
traveling to Paris for a few days with Isabella. Right now, I'm in
a cafe. We are waiting for our flight, and Isabella is drinking
coffee. I'll be back next weekend. So, let's meet then. See you.

After that, students write their own message to Olivia and explain
to her what is happening in the class right now.

Finally, students correct mistakes in sentences and rewrite them.

PRESENT CONTINUOUS

The present continuous tense is used to talk about something that is happening now
and is unfinished. We also use the present continuous when we want to make it clear
that an action is temporary.

Affirmative
Subject verb to be verb+ing
I am studying.
He/She is studying.
You/We/They are studying.
Negative
Subject verb to be + not verb+ing
I am not studying.
He/She is not studying.
You/We/They are not studying.
Question
Verb to be subject verb+ing
Am I studying?
Is he/she studying?
Are you/we/they studying?

A. Read each situation and write what you would say in the present
continuous.
