President’s Message
Dear graduates,
Congratulations and welcome to a distinguished
family of proud RRC Polytech alumni.
Today marks a considerable achievement. As a graduate of Manitoba’s
only polytechnic, you’re entering the workforce more prepared than ever
to face challenges head on. You’ve proven your versatility and adaptability
by acquiring your skills and credentials in an unprecedented period of
constant change.
As a talented and well-rounded addition to any team, I’m confident you’ll carry forward RRC Polytech’s culture
of caring, acceptance and understanding into your work environment and become leaders in your communities.
Please share your knowledge and appreciation of different cultures, traditions and ways of learning that you’ve
developed at the College, as you help shape a better society by continuing to pursue Truth and Reconciliation,
and equity, diversity and inclusion in your future endeavours.
I hope you feel empowered to use your voice to promote the values we share, to actively help others in need and
to drive the change that will ensure our province continues to grow and thrive today, tomorrow and beyond.
As you leave us today, please know our relationship remains strong and is not ending, just evolving. You’ll soon
be the business leaders we rely on to create partnerships, to advise us on how to shape our programs to meet
industry needs and to pass on critical knowledge to the next generation of learners.
RRC Polytech also remains committed to lifelong learning, continuing education, professional development and
corporate training, so we’ll always be here to support you as you pursue future goals throughout your career.
As your time as a student comes to an end and you move forward in your career, you now join the ranks of our
incredible alumni community — over 76,000 strong — who are achieving great things, and I can say with great
confidence, I know you will too.
Congratulations!

Land Acknowledgement
Red River College Polytechnic campuses are located on the original lands of Anishinaabe, Ininiwak,
Anishininwak, Dakota, and Dene peoples and on the homeland of the Red River Métis Nation.
We acknowledge that the water we drink and use comes from Shoal Lake #40.
We respect the Treaties that were made on these territories, and we dedicate ourselves to move forward in
partnership with Indigenous communities in a spirit of reconciliation and collaboration.
RRC Polytech is committed to a renewed relationship and dialogue with First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples
based on the principles of mutual trust, respect and reciprocity.
Honour Song
This tradition began centuries ago on Turtle Island. Indigenous people believe the drum and the heart share a
similar purpose: to provide life through its beat. This convocation promotes oneness, love and respect for
all living things.
The honour song brings voice and calls spirit to celebrate the relationships between all life. Usually sung to
honour a particular person, they can also be sung for groups or at sacred gatherings such as sundances,
sweat lodges and ceremonies to acknowledge those who have accomplished a great goal.
When the honour song is sung at a gathering, it is considered respectful to stand and remove your hat.
Indigenous Stoles
Indigenous graduates from RRC Polytech proudly wear School of Indigenous Education graduation stoles over
their gowns to recognize their academic achievements. These beautiful stoles are embellished with symbols of
the Seven Sacred Teachings, as well as symbols that represent our rich First Nations, Métis and Inuit cultures.
You will also see the Assiniboine and Red Rivers represented throughout the design as a nod to the geography
and history that have brought Indigenous peoples to the land that RRC Polytech campuses are located on.

RRC Polytech Honorary Degree
2022 Recipients
Red River College Polytechnic awards an Honorary Degree
or Diploma to an individual who demonstrates high
standards of excellence in their personal and professional
achievements, and whose involvement in the community
is widely recognized.
The Schroeders grew up in Winnipeg and have always believed in helping others. In 1976, Walter created a new
Canadian-based bond rating agency called Dominion Bond Rating Service, which became one of the world’s
premier agencies. After selling their company, the Schroeders focused their energy on philanthropy and
created The Schroeder Foundation.
“We believe in the power of education, and access should be available for all,” says Walter.
“We are so grateful to be receiving this honorary degree from RRC Polytech.”
“When we were young and growing up in Winnipeg, we benefited from the generosity of others,
and now it is our turn to extend that same support to students in our hometown,” adds Maria.
Since 2019, The Schroeder Foundation has funded 135 full scholarships to RRC Polytech, with wrap-around
supports such as tutoring, guidance and academic coaching. The Foundation has devoted its resources to
improving health and education services across Canada, with a particular focus on supporting Winnipeg’s
high school students in the North End.
Over the last two years, the Foundation has provided 190 full post-secondary scholarships to RRC Polytech,
the University of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg. The Foundation also awards over 10 full scholarships
to Vancouver Film School each year to extraordinary students in Sisler High School’s CREATE program.
This is in addition to the 700+ merit awards provided annually to students at St. John’s High School,
Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute and Sisler High School.
