THE TYPE OF ITEMS TO INCLUDE IN YOUR SKETCH

The following provides pointers as to the type of items that should be checked and
recorded on the sketch (pertaining to the specific incident):

 Fixed structures, and landmarks, which are used as an anchor point relative to
all other additions
 Positions of deceased, injured or impaired people at the time of the incident
 Traffic areas – pedestrian and motorised
 Machines, equipment, substances or anything involved in, or affected by, the
incident
 Skid marks, scratches, dents or other markings related to the incident
 Any motorised equipment/vehicles involved in, or related to, the incident
 Tracks or any signs of movement
 Structural or mechanical defects or irregularities
 Fluid leaks, spillage, contaminated materials
 Flammables or combustibles
 Storage, clearing, decanting or quality control areas
 Sources of distraction or adverse environmental conditions
 Safety devices and/or equipment
 Notices and signs
 Emergency exits
 Fire equipment
 Alarm/warning system
 Energy or process isolation points
 Emergency stops and/or other emergency equipment
 Positions of witnesses
