Futuristic cars equipped with sophisticated artificial intelligence (AI) technology were the stars of

the show during the 26th Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show

(GIIAS) on Thursday. Showcasing advanced technology, automakers at the event emphasized

comfort and convenience for a better driving experience. One example is the Mitsubshi e-

Volution

Concept, an AI System by Japanese carmaker Mitsubishi. The electric concept car, the prototype of

which was unvelied for the first time in Indonesia

during the show, looked sleek and futuristic with an all-white exterior.

Indonesia (MMKSI) president director Kyoya Kondo said
the AI system could help enhance the
driving experience. The AI technology, he said, could
understand driver intent and read changes on the road and
in traffic. The technology is expected to become the
carmaker’s flagship concept for its vehicles going forward.
“This is a prototype that illustrates our renewed brand.
What we see in the e-Volution Concept today is what we
will have in the many Mitsubishi vehicles to come,” Kyoya
said on the sidelines of the show, held at the Indonesia
Exhebition Center in BSD City, Tangerang, Banten, on
Thursday.

Although the concept car is a visualization of Mitsubishi’s future cars in Indonesia, MKKSI director
of sales and marketing Iwan Kuncoro did not specify when the electric car would be mass-produced.
 “It is actually not the first time that we introduced electric cars. Previously, we introduced
several electric vehocles,” Kyoya said, referring to the Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid
(PHEV) and Mitsubishi i-MiEVs.
 “Practically, we are ready at any time [to produce and sell electric vehicles], but it depends
on the government’s preparations for electric vehicles, including in
infrastructure, incentives, import tariffs, and in making sure that the car is affordable enough for
customers in Indonesia,” he said.

Elsewhere at the show, Japanese carmaker Toyota introduced three new vehicles in its Concept-i
series, namely:
1. The Concept-i Car,

2. Concept-i Ride and

3. Concept-i Walk

Toyota Concept-i series consists of electric vehicles equipped with AI technology

that uses an interface called Yui. Through biometric sensor, its AI can detect
what the driver is feeling and make recommendations or take over the wheel
if necessary. Automotive firm Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia
(TMMIN) president director Warih Andang Tjahjono said the introduction of
electric and AI equipped cars was an answer to President Joko “Jokowi”
