Activity: Fact or Bluff Activity
The teacher will present a statement
and the pupils will determine if the
statement is a Fact or Bluff.

1. The Philippines is known to have 4

seasons: summer, spring, winter, and
fall.
2. Some places have different
seasons.
3. The wet or rainy season occurs
during June to November.
4. The dry season happens during
January to May.
5. A season is a subdivision of the
year marked by changes in the
weather, ecology, and hours of
daylight.

 Based from the activity and the

song, what do you think will be

( The teacher will let the pupils

read the objectives posted on the
board)

Activity - Pass the Ball

The teacher will play the music (10
seconds interval) and the pupils will
pass the ball, once the music stops,
the last to hold the ball will read one
question pasted on it and try to
answer it based on his or her own
understanding.

The following questions pasted are:

 What is Rotation?
 What is Axis?
 What is Revolution?
 What is Orbit?

The teacher will present a Globe to

the class.

Ask:
 Do you know what is this object
called and how it is used? (Globe)

 A globe is just a model of our

planet. The green areas
represent land, while the blue
areas represent water.

 When the globe moves in

counterclockwise (East to West)
motion, there are parts of the
globe which directly face the light
and there are also parts which
are facing away from the light.
When the Earth spins on its axis,
the part directly facing the sun
experiences daytime while the
part of the Earth which facing
away from the sun experiences
nighttime.

Ask: What is an Axis?

Used a range of teaching
 An axis is an imaginary line strategies that enhance
where the Earth spins. It is tilted learner achievement in
23.5 degrees and it extends from literacy and numeracy
the North Pole to the South Pole. skills.

Ask: Do you know what are the

movements of the Earth?
 The spinning of the Earth on its
axis is called rotation. It takes 24
hours or one day to complete
one rotation and this causes day
and night.

Things to remember:
As the Earth rotates on its axis,
objects that are not fixed on the
ground such as air get deflected.

 The deflection of the air is called

Coriolis Effect. This effect
happens because different parts
of the Earth move at different
speed as it rotates on its axis.

 The Coriolis Effect contributes to

the circular motion of the wind.
The deflected air affects the
surface ocean currents, which
occur on the open seas and
oceans influencing the direction
of the waves.
Ask: What is an Orbit?
 An orbit is an imaginary path of
the Earth around the sun. As the
Earth moves around the sun,
revolution happens.

Ask: What is Revolution?

 Revolution is the movement of
the Earth on its orbit around the
sun while it is tilted 23.5 degrees
in its axis. One Earth’s revolution
is equivalent to 365 1/4 days or
one year.
 When the Earth is on the other
side while it revolves around the
sun, star patterns from the other
side cannot be seen on Earth.

Evidences that the Earth is revolving

around the sun:
 The star patterns called
constellations that can be seen
at nighttime seems to change
their positions.

 Seasons are a temporary period

of change in climate. Seasons
change because of the unequal
distribution of heat coming from
the sun because of the Earth’s
tilted position as it revolves
around the sun.
Things to remember:
 If the Earth is tilted towards the
sun, the country experiences
summer. If it is tilted away, it is
winter, and if it is neither tilted
towards nor away, it is autumn or
spring. Each season lasts for
three months.
 Countries located near the
equator, like the Philippines, have
only two seasons—the wet and
the dry seasons. This is because
the equator receives equal
amount of light throughout the
year.
D. Discussing new Activity Paste it
concepts and Direction: Look at the following
practicing new skills pictures and paste the appropriate
#1(Explore) description for each:

 ROTATION
 REVOLUTION
 24 hours
 365 and 1/4 days
 Spins on an imaginary line.
 Moves on its orbit around the sun
while it is tilted 23.5 degrees in its
axis.
 Night and Day
 Constellation and Season
Activity -Two Truths and a Lie Activity
E. Developing mastery Direction: Identify which sentence
(leads to Formative are true and a lie in each item.
Assessment 3) 1. An axis is an imaginary line where
(Explain) the Earth spins. It is tilted 23.5
degrees and it extends from the East
Pole to the West Pole.
2. The spinning of the Earth on its axis
is called rotation. It takes 365 and 1/2
days. It causes day and night.
3. The deflection of the air is called
Constellation. This effect happens
because different parts of the Earth
move at different speed as it rotates
on its axis. It also contributes to the
circular motion of the wind.
4. Revolution is the movement of the
Earth on its orbit around the sun while
it is tilted 23.5 degrees in its axis. One
Earth’s revolution is equivalent to 24
hours. It revolves around the sun, star
patterns from the other side cannot be
seen on Earth.
5. The evidences that the planet is
revolving around the sun are
Constellations and Seasons. The
star patterns called constellations that
can be seen at nighttime seems to
change their positions. Seasons are
permanent period of change in
climate.
F. Finding practical Group the pupils by letting them count
applications of from one to three. Use the group
concepts and skills in checklist to monitor the pupil’s
daily living (Elaborate) performance during the group activity.

 How important is the earths’
rotation to all life forms in this
planet?
 Cite evidence as proof of effects
of rotation.
 Write your answer and post it on

Group 2
 Demonstrate the Earth’s
revolution around the sun. By role
- playing.
 How important is revolution of the
Earth?
 Cite evidence as proof of effects
of revolution?
 Write your answer and post it on
the board. Report it to class.
G. Making Ask:

abstractions about the the earth?
lesson (Elaborate)  How will you define rotation and
revolution?
 How do these movements differ
from each other?
 How important are rotation and
revolution? Why?

H. Evaluating Learning Direction: Differentiate Earth’s

(Evaluate) rotation from revolution by completing
the boxes in the diagram below.
Select your answer which best
describes to each movement from the
parenthesis. Put your answers in their
proper columns.

I. Additional Activities Direction: Draw/illustrate the Earth’s
