A visit to Japan

I’m an 18-year-old girl from Sweden, called Susanna. Last summer, I visited my
Japanese friend Nori in Tokyo. When I got there we drove through the city. I
knew there’d be lots of people and it was great to see the bright lights, but the
best thing was listening to the Japanese language for the first time.

I had a surprise when I saw Nori’s house. I already knew that Japanese people
often sit on the floor, and that some people sleep in their living room, but I didn’t
know that you can move walls to make rooms bigger or smaller.

One day we went to some clothes shops, but I didn’t get anything. I wanted to
visit a famous comic shop, but it was closed, so we went to a strange café where
you can drink tea and play with lots of cats!

Usually we ate in Nori’s home and once I tried sashimi, the famous fish dish. I
learned that Japanese food is very good and keeps people healthy. Once we
went to a restaurant and Nori said ‘Try the noodles’. They were much better than
the ones that people in my country eat.

We went to an onsen, too, a large bath which is outside. The water comes from
the ground and it’s hot. It was too got for me. There were lots of people, so it was
noisy. But the mountains around the onsen were lovely. What a fantastic holiday!
