How is the rate of diffusion in water affected by the

temperature of the water?

Christopher, Torsten

Claim
The diffusion of dye happens faster the hotter the temperature of
water it is in.

Evidence
The dye in the hot water (80°C) diffused much more quickly than the
dye in cold water (8°C). The hot water averaged at around 50.5
seconds, while in cold water, it took around 5 minutes and 4 seconds.
The cold water took abound 5 times longer to diffuse than hot water.
Comparing the hot water to the room temperature (17°C) control
group, the diffusion of dye in hot water is significantly faster than room
temperature. The cold water had only a one-minute difference.

Reasoning
The dye in the hot water diffused much more quickly because there is
more energy in the hot water, thus causing the particles of the dye to
diffuse faster as well. The room temperature water took more time to
diffuse because it is colder than the hot water, making it have less
energy than it as well. The cold water took the longest, as it had the
least amount of energy out of the three.

Sources of error: We were not watching the dye diffuse all the time so
some of the times could be slightly inaccurate.
