Job Sheet 1

Source S Of Energy
OBJECTIVES
In this job, you will become familiar with some common energy sources that we use to
electrically power areas of our planet. You will identify several energy sources that we
use for daily work, and determine which examples of energy are renewable, and
which examples are non-renewable. You will also identify the form and type of each
energy source.

PROCEDURE

২ 1. Complete the following table:

Energy Source Renewable or Potential or Initial Form(s)

Non-renewable Kinetic Before
Conversion
Bioenergy Renewable Potential Biomass, biofuel
Coal Non-renewable Potential Bituminous,
anthracite, lignite
coals
Geothermal Renewable Kinetic Earth-heated
underground
water and steam
Hydropower Renewable Kinetic Moving water
Natural Gas Non-renewable Potential Methane,
propane, pentane
and butane gases
Nuclear Non-renewable Potential Nuclear fission of
uranium,
plutonium, thorium
Oil Non-renewable Potential Fossil fuel: heating
oil, crude oil is
refined into
gasoline, diesel
oil, jet fuel, asphalt
Solar Renewable Kinetic Abundant full-
spectrum light
from the sun
Wind Renewable Kinetic Moving air
২ 2. What is the predominant source of energy in your community?
Hydropower

২ 3. Why is this the predominant energy source?

Hydropower is the predominant energy source in Ghana because: Ghana has

rich natural resources and significant hydropower potential. As of 2019 Ghana
had an installed hydropower capacity of 1,584MW

Sources of energy

২ 4. What would be the best choice of alternative or renewable energy for

your community?

Solar Energy

২ 5. Why do you believe this is the best choice?

Because Ghana is in the tropics and produces a lot of heat which is a good source for solar
energy.
