An Organization is planning to provide centralized data- processing capabilities across the enterprise. Help the
organization to Identify the concept to build the same and Explain them about the concept and its components with
an example of online transaction system to establish the same in detail.

Historically organizations had centralized computers and information storage devices like tape reels and disk packs
in their data center but with this evolution of open systems, organizations were not satisfied due to a lot of
drawbacks. As a solution to this matter, Illustrate the evolution of Storage Architecture with a neat diagram.

Mr. Manav, who is a new employee of an organization has been assigned a task to organize its data in a structured
hierarchical manner via directories. Help Mr. Manav to accomplish his task by outlining the concept and Illustrate
the process of mapping user files to the disk storage subsystem with an LVM with a neat diagram.

Ms. Sita, an employee of an organization is given the responsibility to govern the overall performance of the
storage system environment. She knows that the Disk drive device is actually responsible for the overall
performance of the storage system environment but she doesn't know about the factors that are affecting the
performance of disk drives. Explain the same with Zoned bit recording with a neat diagram.

In the past, tapes were the most popular storage option for backups because of their low cost. However, tapes had
various limitation in terms of performance and management. List the limitations of tapes and Identify the better
backup destination for enterprise-class data centers and explain its physical structure and Components in detail
with the help of a neat diagram.
An Organization is planning to provide centralized data- processing capabilities across the enterprise. But before
building the same, help the organization to describe the key characteristics of data center and tasks involved in
managing the data center with the help of a neat diagram.

Data centers are essential and integral part of any business, whether small, medium or large is size. The core
elements of data center work together to process and store data but classic data centers will limit the utilization and
increase the total cost of owning an infrastructure. Identify how you can increase the utilization of core elements of
data center and reduce the total cost of owning an infrastructure by evolving from classic data centers to virtual
data centers. Explain each component in detail.

Outline Host access to data. Explain direct attached storage in detail.

Show how can you create virtualized data center by virtualizing components of data center.

Define RAID and Name the two methods of RAID Implementation.

List the key functions of the RAID controllers.

What is Cache. Define Read Cache Hit and Cache Miss.

Define the number of minimum disks required for RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 3, RAID 4, RAID 5, RAID 6,RAID 0+1

What is Cache mirroring and Cache vaulting?

What is Traditional Storage Provisioning and Virtual Storage Provisioning?

Illustrate Raid 0 + 1 and Raid 1+0.

Compare High end storage systems to Midrange storage system with the help of neat diagram.

Demonstrate the suitable RAID level to be implemented with the help of diagram – we are a media house and we
use lot of graphics/video applications – we need large throughputs for videos to get played without any jitter and
since we are in publishing business we can’t afford downtimes. Even if there is any downtime we would like our
data to be quickly reconstructed and enable us to continue with work in less time

Rapid adoption of computers for business processes stimulated the growth of new applications and databases,
significantly increasing the demand for storage capacity and performance. At that time Single Large Expensive
Drive (SLED) was used but could not meet the required performance levels. Outline the concept to replace SLED
for better performance and explain the two methods to implement the same.

Cache is a finite and expensive resource that needs proper management. Even though modern ISS come with a
large amount of cache, when all cache pages are filled, some pages have to be freed up to accommodate new data
and avoid performance degradation. Explain the most commonly used algorithms to free up cache pages and
explain flushing and three different modes of flushing.
A disk drive is a core element of storage that governs the performance of any storage system but these older disk -
array technologies could not overcome performance constraints due to the limitations of disk drives and their
mechanical components. Illustrate the new breed of storage solution to overcome the performance constraints of
disk drives and explain their components with the help of neat diagram.

Today's data centers house hundreds of disk drives in their storage infrastructure but disk drivers are inherently
susceptible to failures due to mechanical wear and tear and other environmental factors, which could result in data
loss. Identify the concept and three maintain techniques of the concept that enables leveraging multiple drives as
part of a set that provide data protection against drive failures.

An intelligent storage system is an integral part of every data center supporting large capacity with high
performance which makes it necessary to share it among multiple hosts. Identify the concept which can assign
storage resources to hosts based on capacity, availability and performance requirements of applications running on
the hosts. Analyze the two ways of storage provisioning with a neat diagram.

It is identified that slowest component of an intelligent storage system is rotating disks. Data access on rotating
disks usually takes several millisecond due to its seek time and rotational latency. Identify component which can
improve the storage system performance by isolating hosts from mechanical delays associated with rotating disks
and justify the same with the help of its read and write operation and data protection on the same.

Explain the key features of CAS.

Explain two types of virtualization in SAN.

The growth of unstructured data has posed new challenges to the IT administrators and storage managers. Identify
and demonstrate the storage solution which can handle the overhead to the NAS in terms of managing large
number of permissions and nested directories.

The growth of unstructured data has posed new challenges to the IT administrators and storage managers. With this
growth, traditional NAS, which is a dominant solution for storing the unstructured data, has become inefficient
which has lead to the development of new storage solution called OSD. Construct the data storage and retrieval
process of OSD system.

Compare Server-Based and Serverless Backup Toplogy in NAS environments.

Explain advantages of distributed memory model

With growing business and regulatory demands for data storage, retention and availability, organizations are faced
with the task of backing up an ever-increasing amount of data. This task becomes more challenging with the
growth of information, stagnant IT budgets, and less time for taking backups. Moreover, organizations need a
quick restore of backed up data to meet business SLAs. Categorize the backup based on granularity and illustrate
its restore operations with respect to each category.
