STEM Tools for Presentations

Part 1: Template

Two STEM Standards:

1. Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) - Determine the qualitative and

quantitative standards and limitations for solutions to a significant global problem that

take societal needs and desires into consideration (Next Generation Science Standards,

n.d.).

2. Common Core State Standards (CCSS) - To answer a question or provide a solution,

combine and assess information from various sources given in a variety of mediums

(such as quantitative data, video, and multimedia).

Learning Objectives:

 Students will effectively demonstrate their understanding of a STEM concept through a

well-organized and visually engaging PowerPoint presentation.

 Students will utilize critical thinking skills to analyze and present data, fostering an

understanding of the connection between STEM topics and real-world challenges.

Description of Presentation Tool:

Microsoft PowerPoint is a versatile presentation software that enables users to create dynamic

and visually engaging slideshows. With its intuitive interface and comprehensive set of tools,

PowerPoint allows for the seamless integration of text, images, audio, and video elements.

Users can leverage various design features such as templates, animations, and transitions to

enhance the overall visual appeal of their presentations. Furthermore, PowerPoint facilitates

the easy organization and structuring of content, making it an ideal platform for delivering

complex information in a clear and accessible manner. Its widespread compatibility and

accessibility across different devices make it a popular choice for both educational and

professional purposes.

Description of the learning activity and how the students will utilize the presentation

tool:

In this learning activity, students will research a current environmental issue, such as climate

change or pollution, and create a PowerPoint presentation that analyzes the issue from a

STEM perspective. Students will utilize PowerPoint to integrate data, visuals, and concise text

to explain the scientific principles underlying the problem and propose feasible solutions.

They will utilize features such as SmartArt, charts, and multimedia elements to enhance the

presentation's visual appeal and effectively communicate complex STEM concepts to their

peers. Through this activity, students will not only develop their presentation skills but also

deepen their understanding of the critical role of STEM in addressing global challenges.

Differentiate to meet the diverse learning needs for the three students identified in Topic

2 (i.e., How will the following three students meet the designed objectives? What

accommodations will be made for these students?).

 Student name: Arturio - explanation of differentiation: Arturo, being an English

Language Learner and receiving Tier 2 RTI for reading, might benefit from visual aids

and simplified language in his learning materials. Providing him with bilingual

resources and utilizing PowerPoint presentations with clear, concise language and

visual representations can aid in his comprehension. Additionally, offering small group

instruction and frequent checks for understanding can support his learning process.

 Student name: Bertie - explanation of differentiation: Bertie, a student from a low

socioeconomic background, performing one year above grade level in reading and at

grade level in math, would benefit from enrichment activities within the context of the

STEM presentation. Providing her with advanced reading materials, challenging

problem-solving tasks, and encouraging her to take on a leadership role in group

activities can help foster her advanced skills and keep her engaged.

 Student name: Fredrick - explanation of differentiation: Fredrick, a male student with

learning disabilities, receiving Tier 3 RTI for both reading and math, would require a

more individualized approach. Providing him with personalized learning materials,

including audiovisual aids and additional instructional support, can help him

comprehend complex STEM concepts. Allowing extended time for assignments,

breaking down tasks into smaller steps, and employing assistive technology tools such

as speech-to-text software can facilitate his learning process and ensure he meets the

learning objectives. Regular check-ins and collaboration with special education

professionals can help tailor the curriculum to his specific needs.

Part 2: Reflection

Within the ever-changing and rapidly progressing domain of STEM education,

employing various presentation tools bears notable relevance in cultivating a captivating and

interactive educational atmosphere. These tools serve a vital function in streamlining clear

communication, augmenting critical thinking, and fostering a more profound comprehension of

intricate scientific notions among learners (Lytovchenko et al., 2021). By incorporating diverse

presentation tools – encompassing PowerPoint, Google Slides, Prezi, and others – educators can

inspire pupils to actively partake in their scholarly journey, develop fundamental digital

competency, and nurture a sense of creativity and innovation.

The complex essence of STEM disciplines frequently necessitates the incorporation of

visual illustrations, interactive aspects, and multi-faceted media to adeptly elucidate elaborate

scientific principles and notions. Presentation tools offer learners the chance to organize and

exhibit information in a lucid, visually compelling mode; subsequently facilitating effective

communication of their thoughts and discoveries to classmates and mentors. By embracing these

methodologies, pupils can not only augment their demonstrative and conversational aptitudes but

also cultivate a profound recognition for the interdisciplinary nature of STEM realms and their

pragmatic implementations.

Keeping pace with modern technological tools is essential for educators to guarantee they

remain well-informed about the newest developments in educational technology. The continuous

progression of presentation tools empowers teachers to investigate innovative methods for

conveying subject matter, involving pupils in proactive learning, and cultivating a cooperative

and comprehensive educational setting (Lytovchenko et al., 2021). By adopting emerging

technologies, educators can modify their instructional approaches to accommodate assorted

learning styles and preferences; thus, fostering a highly tailored and engaging educational

journey for learners.

In my forthcoming STEM classroom, I aspire to harness diverse presentation tools for

crafting a vibrant and interactive educational atmosphere, nurturing creativity and critical

thinking. My intention encompasses the incorporation of tools such as Microsoft PowerPoint,

Google Slides, and Prezi to create an immersive and captivating learning environment. Microsoft

PowerPoint will be employed for its user-friendly interface and exhaustive functionalities,

empowering students to produce aesthetically enticing presentations with multimedia facets.

Google Slides, with its cloud-based teamwork proficiency, will facilitate fluid collaboration

among learners for collective assignments and real-time modifications. Moreover, Prezi's

dynamic exposition approach will be assimilated to assist students in effectively articulating

intricate STEM concepts; thus, inspiring critical thinking and augmenting their collective

comprehension of the subjects. By incorporating this assorted array of presentation tools, my

objective is to cultivate resourcefulness, cooperative education, and proficient communicative

abilities within my students—thereby equipping them for success in the perpetually transforming

realm of STEM disciplines.
