Alpha Preliminary Debate

Theta Nu v. Xi Phi

– Poverty is often the baseline reason for crime. By defunding police, you
reallocate funds to help support local communities. You’re able to invest
more in education, public recreational facilities
– No blanket solution. Police have been seen as a blanket solution for far
too long. We look at Daniel Prude, a black man from New York who died
in police hands during a mental health crisis. Had someone with
adequate training been able to respond to a mental health crisis, Mr.
Prude

– Are you assuming that bureaucracy can only be slow, and therefore we
should essentially give up and only allow

– Have you ever considered that defunding the police doesn’t only mean
taking away body cameras, rather?
– Are you essentially giving up

– Training is necessary
– Bureaucracy’s are “slow,” however, in society whenever.
