2.2 Refractory Firebrick

2.2.1 Refractory firebrick shall conform to the requirements of ASTM C27.

2.2.2 Refractory firebrick shall be High Duty, Regular or Spall Resistant, or Super Duty Spall Resistant as
described in Table I of ASTM C27. The type of firebrick shall be specified in the Order.

2.3 Mortar

Sufficient quantity of air setting mortar for dipped brick construction shall be supplied unless otherwise specified
in the Purchase Order. The mortar shall be compatible with refractory or insulating bricks being supplied.

2.4 Dimensions

2.4.1 Unless otherwise noted, bricks specified as straights shall be 9 in. x 4 1/2 in. x 3 in. (230 mm x 115 mm
x 75 mm) and splits shall be 9 in. x 4 1/2 in. x 1 1/2 in. (230 mm x 115 mm x 38 mm).

2.4.2 Tongued and grooved bricks shall have 11/16 inch (17.5 mm) radius grooves and 9/16 inch (14.5 mm)
radius tongues on 3 3/8 inch (86 mm) center to center along 9 inch (230 mm) brick length. Bricks typically will
be 9 in. x 6 in. x 3 in. (230 mm x 150 mm x 75 mm) with tongues and grooves located along 9 in. x 6 in.
(230 mm x 150 mm) surfaces.

3.2 Inspection

The inspector representing the Purchaser shall have entry at all times, while work on the contract of the
Purchaser is being performed, to all parts of the manufacturer's works that concern the manufacture of the
material ordered. The manufacturer shall afford the inspector all reasonable facilities to ensure that the material
is being furnished in accordance with this specification. All required tests and inspection shall be made at the
place of manufacture prior to shipment unless otherwise specified, and will be conducted to avoid unnecessary
interference with the work operation.
