General Safety Guidelines


This system is intended for medical diagnostic purposes only. Observe the
following general safety precautions:
• Read and fully understand this manual before using this software. Failure
to follow operating instructions can result in serious injury.
• Do not use this software for anything other than medical diagnosis.
• Observe all warnings and cautions, stated or implied, in this manual and
the manuals for associated equipment.
• Comply with all safety labels on the equipment.
• Permit only properly trained and qualified personnel to operate this
equipment. Operators must meet all state and local requirements and
regulations.
• X-rays pose a health risk for both patients and operators. Take all
measures to minimize radiation exposure to any persons.
• Do not defeat or bypass built-in equipment safety features.
• Before operating X-ray equipment, operators must know the location of all
emergency stop switches (if installed), which allow immediate shutdown
in the event of unintended motion or catastrophic equipment failure.
• Pediatric patients are especially sensitive to adverse x-ray effects. For
guidance, refer to these resources:

Getting Started

1.1 Starting Up and Logging in to the System
Start the DelWorks DR at least 30 minutes before use.
1. Switch on the generator, detector and all other system components. Verify
that all components are functional.
2. Switch on the DelWorks DR PC. If required, log in to Windows.
3. Log in to the DelWorks DR Console application. As the application starts,
you see the Initializing... screen display task status. Then you see the
New/Edit Patient window (page 1-2).

1.2 Status Bar


The Status Bar at the bottom of all console windows provides realtime status
information for several system elements.

1.11 Shutting Down or Logging Out


Shut down DelWorks DR at the end of the workday, or restart every 24 hours.
1. From the Study List window, click the Main Menu button
( , upper right corner). You see 3 options:
• Logoff: Switch to the Login window to log back in to the DelWorks DR
Console as another user.
• Exit: Close the DelWorks DR Console application.
• Shutdown: Close the DelWorks DR Console application and shut
down the Computer.

2.1 Overview
This chapter summarizes a typical workflow when making X-ray exposures
while using DelWorks DR. For more detailed information, see the DelWorks
DR User Guide.

Typical Workflow
1. Enter or designate patient information and create a study.
2. Determine the required views and settings for the exposure(s).
3. Make exposures.
4. Review and process images.
5. Complete the study and send images to PACS and/or other destinations.

2.2 Emergency Patient ID


The emergency feature lets you bypass standard patient and study
registration and immediately conduct an X-ray examination.

Emergency Examination
For an emergency “express” examination, perform the following steps:
1. Go to the Study List window and click the Emergency tab. You see the
Exam window, with a generated patient name.
2. Configure generator settings and continue with the examination.

Emergency Patient Information


To edit emergency patient information (before or after an exposure):
1. From the Study List or Completed window, select a Study.
2. Click the Edit button ( ). You see the New/Edit Patient window.
3. Make changes as needed and click Edit To Study List ( ) or Edit
To Completed ( ) to save.

2.3 Non-Emergency Patient ID


Before capturing images, identify the patient.
1. From the Study List or Completed window, click the New Patient button.
You see the New/Edit Patient window.
2. For a new patient, fill in the Patient Name and Patient ID (required), plus
other information as available.
If the patient already exists on the DR database, enter the patient’s ID or
name and click Search. DelWorks DR then fills in the form.
3. Enter the required patient information.
4. Click Add To Study List ( ).

2.4 Loading a Study for an Exposures


1. Select an item in the Study List. The item turns red. If desired, you can
select addition studies for the same patient ID with Ctrl-click.
2. Click Next ( ). You see the Exam window.
3. Click on a view to select that view. You see information about the view at
the top of the window.
4. Verify exposure settings. To adjust settings, first click mAs or Time.
5. Verify the workstation selection, and if used, AEC settings.
Note: To capture an additional image, click Add Protocol ( ).

2.5 Making an Exposure


Use standard methods to make an exposure, typically with a 2-position
handswitch. See the generator documentation.

2.6 Optimizing the Image


After taking the exposure, the image is shown in the Image Processor
window, with exposure information in the corners of the image. You can:
• Select a post-process algorithm: ESA or Symphony (if available).
• Adjust the ESA/Symphony setting.
• Crop the image.
• Add comments or digital markers.
• Rotate or flip the image.
• Zoom in or out.
• Accept or reject the image.

2.6.1 Image Processing


To load an image into the Image Processor:
1. Select a study item in the Study List window.
2. Click Next ( ). You see the Exam window.
3. Click on an image. You see a white border around the selected image,.
4. Click Review ( ). You see the Review window.
5. Click the Reprocess button ( ). You see the Image Processor window,
with a 3-tabbed panel to the right.

2.6.2 Contrast and Brightness


All 3 tabs let you adjust the image’s contrast and brightness.

2.6.3 Mark Tab: Markers and Comments


From the Image Processor window click the Mark tab. You see the Marks
panel.
Markers. You can add digital markers to an image, which are sent to the
output DICOM device(s).
Comments. You can add text comments to an image at the time of
acquisition, which are sent to the destination DICOM devices.

2.6.4 Tools Tab: Cropping, Rotating, and Masking


From the Image Processor window click the Tools tab. You see the Tools panel.
Cropping. Use the Crop tools to trim out the unwanted part of the image.
Rotating. Use the bottom rotate buttons to rotate the image in 90° increments
or finer increments.
Masking. Use the Mask tool ( ) to mask off and darken an unwanted
portion of the image.

2.6.5 Process Tab: Adjusting ESA or Symphony Settings


From the Image Processor window click the Process tab. You see the Image
Optimization panel (page 1-4), where you can:
• adjust brightness or contrast
• switch between Symphony or ESA processing
• fine tune Symphony settings
• change the curve shape
• change the associated view

2.6.6 Accepting the Image


To accept the image and return to the Exam window, click Accept. This stores
the image in the DelWorks DR Console and queues it to be sent to the default
output devices.

2.6.7 Rejecting the Image


To reject the image:
1. Click the Reject button. You see an Image Rejection Reason list.
2. Select a reason for the rejection. You see the image in the Views/Images
panel with an X in the upper left corner.

2.7 Complete or Suspend the Study


Click Close to exit the Exam window. When you do this, you either Complete
or Suspend the study.
When all images are accepted, DelWorks DR sends the images to the
configured destination(s) and Completes the study.
If not all images are accepted, you see a choice to Suspend or Complete the
study (or Cancel and return to the Exam window).
When you Suspend the study, you see it in the Study List designated as In-
Progress, and no images are sent.

3.1 Overview
This chapter summarizes some typical tasks performed while using DelWorks
DR.

3.2 Exporting an Image to a Flash Drive


1. From the Study List, select the study containing the image to export. You
then see image thumbnails in the Views/Images panel.

2. Highlight the study you wish to export and click Export ( ),. You see
the Export Wizard window.
3. Click Browse and navigate to your flash drive location.
4. Select an image format (DICOM, JPEG, etc.).
5. Choose whether to create a DICOM directory.
6. Choose whether to make the images Anonymous.

7. Click Next ( ).

8. After the Export Wizard has finished click Next ( ) again.

3.3 Printing an Image


1. From the Study List, select the study containing the image to print. You
then see image thumbnails in the Views/Images panel.

2. Click Next ( ). You see the Exam window.

3. Click the Print tab. You then see the Print window.

4. Click the Define Film Layout button ( ) and sweep over the desired
squares.
5. Drag images to print onto the layout.
6. Select a print node (printing destination) from the Print Node list.

7. Click the DefineFilm Size button ( ) to select the size of the film or
paper desired (and compatible with the output device).
8. Click the Print button.

3.4 Image Stitching


Following is only basic information regarding image stitching. Also, follow
these guidelines:
• SID is greater than 150cm, or for chest imaging, greater than 180cm.
• Do not rotate the detector between exposures.
• Allow at least 1/8” of overlap between images to be stitched.
• Avoid splitting the chest area into separate images.
• Keep the anatomy in the center of the image.
1. From the Exam window of an acquired image, click Stitching ( ). You
then see the Stitching window.
2. Select up to 5 images from the left (check the white box in the corner), and
move them to the correct order.
3. Click Start. You see the second stitching window.
4. Use the Point or Absolute button to set match points or the Rectangle button
to set overlaps.

5. Click Next ( ). You see the third stitching (Adjustment) window.


6. In the Stitching Adjustment Menu, make fine adjustments.
7. Click Next ( ). You see the fourth stitching (crop/save) window.
8. If needed, crop the image.
9. Click Save.
