Expected Outcome and Goals

COP28 holds great significance as it concludes the inaugural Global Stocktake, assessing progress
towards the goals of the Paris Agreement. A pivotal objective at COP28 is to secure an ambitious
political deal to escalate climate action, highlighting the urgent need to limit warming to 1.5 degrees
Celsius and address climate disasters [2]. The COP28 UAE Presidency strives to mobilize a clear plan
of action, emphasizing emission reduction by 43% by 2030 [3] and rectifying adaptation, finance, and
loss and damage challenges.

Current Progress
As COP28 approaches, slated to take place from November 30 to December 12, 2023[1], intense
preparations are underway to assess the current progress in addressing climate change. Discussions
revolve around crucial topics such as adaptation efforts, technology transfer, capacity-building
initiatives, and the transition to clean energy sources. Stakeholders are engaged in evaluating the
advancements made thus far and identifying areas that require further attention. These
deliberations aim to shape comprehensive strategies and policies that reflect the current progress
and foster sustainable solutions to combat climate change. By focusing on the theme of current
progress, COP28 endeavours to build upon existing achievements and drive transformative action
towards a more sustainable future.

Latest updates
The recently concluded Bonn Climate Change Conference served as a preparatory platform for
decisions to be adopted at the upcoming COP28 summit in the United Arab Emirates. Regrettably,
the head of the United Nations' climate body expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of the
conference, noting that the process was advancing at a sluggish pace, which does not align with the
pressing urgency of the global climate crisis [4].

progress made. Yes. Was it enough? We will know as we
as we enter the COP28 itself," Simon Stiell, the U.N.
