The Legend of
Lake Toba
Paragraph 1
In short, the Legend of Lake Toba tells
the story of a young man named Toba
who lived in North Sumatra, who
married a beautiful girl who was the
incarnation of a fish, on the condition
that he not tell anyone about the
woman's origins.
Paragraph 2
Long story short, they were
blessed with a child named
Samosir. One day, while working
in the fields, Samosir was asked
by his mother to bring lunch to his
father in the garden. However,
Samosir felt hungry and ate the
rice he brought.
Paragraph 3
When he arrived at the garden, the
father was angry because his only
son had eaten his rice. In the midst
of his anger, Toba uttered this
taboo sentence, saying that Toba
was a baby fish.
Paragraph 4
His wife then got angry and asked
Samosir to take shelter
somewhere. The water overflowed
which then became a lake called
Lake Toba while the land where the
Toba children took shelter was then
named Samosir island
