TOBA LAKE

Lake Toba is one of the most famous destinations in Indonesia. Located on the island of
Sumatra, Lake Toba is one of the destinations for local and foreign tourists. just like other touristic
places, Lake Toba also has a legend that is quite famous to this day. Legend is a story of the past that
was passed on by word of mouth, becoming a story of ancestral beliefs that was passed down from
generation to generation.

Without waiting any longer, let's see the story behind Lake Toba which is very famous for its
beauty;

Once upon a time there was a very prosperous village on a very faraway island called Sumatra.
In the northern part of the island, lived a farmer named Toba. he lived alone in a hut in the forest. he
works in his own garden growing rice and vegetables.

One day Toba wanted to fish in the river. he was very surprised when he got a very big gold
fish. he immediately went home and put the fish in his kitchen. she plans to cook fish for her dinner. but
the firewood ran out, so he went to look for firewood first.

when toba was looking for firewood in his house, a miracle happened that his house became
shining then how surprised he was when he entered his house the gold fish was gone, instantly instead
of it there were pieces of gold, it turned out that the fish turned into a beautiful girl and the gold pieces
were scales.

Toba was very surprised then he asked the girl.

Toba : "Who are you? What's your name? Why are you suddenly in my house?"

Girl : "Actually I am a fish, Toba don't eat me, instead I give the gold piece and I will live with
you and be your maid in return for my thanks"

After that Toba allowed the woman to stay and work for him. it didn't take long to fall in love
with the girl, because she was so beautiful and kind and Toba wanted to marry her. The girl agreed to
marry Toba but on one condition

Girl : "Never tell anyone about my origins."

Toba : " well I promise I will not tell anyone ".

A few months later they were blessed with a baby boy. Toba named him Samosir.
Unfortunately Samosir is a lazy child. He didn't want to work while his father worked hard to support
them. Toba is very disappointed with his son, he hopes that one day Samosir can turn into a diligent
child.

One day Samosir was asked by his mother to deliver lunch for his father while his mother was
at home to do housework.

"Son, please help deliver this lunch to your father in the garden."
"Ah, I'm still tired after playing, mom, just take it"
"Samosir please just this time obey your mother's orders"
"Ah yes yes I will deliver"

Samosir did not go straight to the garden, he stopped somewhere in the middle of the road and
ate his father's lunch. almost after lunch time Samosir arrived at the garden.

"Dad, dad, I brought lunch from mom to dad"

"Oh, my son Samosir, you really want to come here"
 However, when he opened his lunch, Toba was very surprised to find that his lunch was empty
"hah what is this why is there no food left"
"I-I'm sorry dad, I ate some when I was on my way to the garden"

Toba was so disappointed and he was so angry when he realized that his son ate his lunch.

"You stupid lazy child, you fish child!"

Hearing his father angry and calling him the son of a fish Samosir was sad and crying he
immediately ran to his house to meet his mother. He immediately told everything to his mother.
Samosir's mother was very surprised

"Oh Toba. You broke your promise so I can't live together here anymore. Now you have to bear
the consequences of your actions.

" Samosir go up the hill, find the tallest tree and climb it"

"Why mother, what will happen?"

"Just do it, don't ask anything. Goodbye"

After knowing his son had arrived at the hill, it was his turn to go to the river where he came
from, he also plunged into the river and returned to the form of a fish. Immediately the weather
immediately changed. The sunny day suddenly turned into a cloudy day. After that it rained very hard. it
rained non-stop for several days as a result there was a flood and the flood became a very large lake.
The lake is named Lake Toba and in the middle there is an island called the island of Samosir.
