ZamboSuroy: A Mobile Tourist Spot

Mapping System and Recommender based

on User Preference

By: Group 8
Background
Tourism is an essential economic activity that contributes to the development and
growth of a region. Tourists seek new experiences and adventures, and with the advent
of mobile technology, they have increasingly come to rely on mobile applications to
plan their travel and explore tourist spots. District 2 of Zamboanga del Sur is a coastal
area known for its pristine beaches, natural reserves, cultural heritage sites, and
traditional cuisine. The province’s thriving tourism industry draws both local and
foreign visitors, making it a popular regional destination.

Despite the province’s many tourist attractions, visitors may find it challenging to
explore the various attractions, plan their travels, and make the most of their time in
the District 2 of Zamboanga del Sur. To address this issue, the purpose of this research
is to create a mobile application mapping system and tourist spot recommender that
would provide visitors with an interactive and user-friendly guide to the many tourist
locations and attractions within the District 2 of Zamboanga del Sur.

Statement of the Problem
The district 2 of Zamboanga del Sur is home to several tourist
spots, but navigating the area can be challenging for visitors
who are unfamiliar with the terrain and transportation options.
While existing mobile mapping systems provide route
recommendations, they do not take into consideration
particular user preferences, such as tourist site interests. In
addition, there is a lack of information on transport fares and
time of travel, which can make it difficult for tourists to plan
their itinerary and budget.

Significance of the Study

1. Enhance tourist experience

2. Provide personalized recommendations
3. Facilitate better planning
Scope
Can allow users to easily navigate and explore tourist spots
within District 2 of Zamboanga del Sur
Can recommend tourist spots based on the user’s
preferences
Can encompass the integration of estimated transport fare
and travel duration information
Mapping tool such as the Google map, Collaborative filtering
and Content-based algorithm will be implemented in this
study.
Delimitations
It is only limited to the most popular tourist destinations in
the province of Zamboanga del Sur’s District 2.
The estimated transport fare and average travel duration
information to users may not be able to account for
unexpected delays or changes in transportation fares.
The recommendations of tourist spots may not always be
accurate or comprehensive.
Internet connectivity may not always be present.
