BVRMC Celebrates 20 Years of Patient Care at Hope Harbor

This June, Buena Vista Regional Medical Center celebrates the 20-year anniversary of
Hope Harbor, a 10-bed geriatric behavioral health unit.
BVRMC Hope Harbor specializes in the medical management of psychiatric disorders
for the geriatric population. For 20 years, Hope Harbor has provided a variety of
services to individuals in our communities, including:
 Medical & Psychiatric Evaluations
 Medication Management & Education
 Individualized Treatment Planning
 Occupational, Physical & Speech Therapy
 Dietitian Services
“Having a family member or a loved one with dementia is very difficult. We are truly
grateful for the specialized care our family member received during their say in Hope
Harbor,” says a family member of a patient. “They are now able to recognize us and
participate in activities at the nursing home. Thank you!”
The goal at BVRMC Hope Harbor is to enhance self-esteem and dignity, identify and
emphasize capabilities rather than limitations and promote optimal independence. The
team at Hope Harbor recognize the specialized needs of older adults, many of whom
are dealing with complex mental health issues complicated by medical and physical
concerns.
“Hope Harbor has been a huge help for those needing psychiatric assistance, including
those that reside in the long term care system,” says a nurse from a long-term care
facility. “Hope Harbor is a valued member of the health care team. Hope Harbor
definitely provides a much needed service.”
In June 2001, construction was completed on BVRMC Hope Harbor’s facility. In 2007
and again in 2017, Hope Harbor completed remodeling projects to provide an even
greater level of care to patients.
