Friendship Bond
By Abegail R. Gamiao
Amara and Lala are good friends. They go to the same school. They love to
play together. They love to volunteer in community programs that promote
environment conservation.
Although Amara is a Muslim and Lala is a Christian they are still friends.
Amara excels more in Science than Lala though Lala performs better in Arts. Lala
loves to eat food like Adobo. On the other hand, Amara likes to eat vegetables.
For them, it does not matter how different two people are as long as they
understand each other. This is what makes their friendship last.
In what ways are Amara and Lala the same? Let us compare them. When
we compare, we look for their similarities. Words like similarly, also, both and
like show comparison. Here are their comparisons.
In what ways are they different? Let us contrast them. When we contrast,
we look for their differences. Words like on the other hand, while, but, and
however show contrast. Here are their differences.
Now let us show their comparison and contrast using the Venn Diagram.
We will put Amara’s description on the left circle and Lala’s description on
the right circle. We will put their similarities in the middle circle.
Let’s Try This
Activity 1
Directions: Listen carefully to the story that your parent will read to you
then compare and contrast the two cats in the story using Venn
diagram.
Jenny has two cats, Princess and Lucky. They are both the same age, but
Lucky is bigger. Lucky has white and gray fur, whereas Princess is as black as the
night. Both cats are very friendly and love to play games. The two cats always eat
together but Lucky eats a lot quicker! After dinner they go upstairs and rest.
Lucky sleeps by the window and Princess sleeps on the bed with Jenny.

answer the questions that follow. Write the letter of your answer.
Both bats and birds can fly. You might see them on a rooftop. In
other ways, bats and birds are very different. Birds have feathers. Bats
have fur. Birds have beaks. Bats have teeth. Bats hang upside down
when they rest. Birds never do that! Bats and birds are very easy to tell
apart when they are not flying.
