CASE STUDIES OF TOUCHLESS

TECHNOLOGY

9.1 Amazon Go (Retail):

Overview: Amazon Go is a cashier-less retail experience that
utilizes a combination of computer vision, sensors, and machine
learning to enable a fully touchless shopping experience.
How It Works: Customers enter the store by scanning a QR code
on the Amazon Go app, and then sensors and cameras track their
movements and items selected. When customers leave the store, their
Amazon account is automatically charged.
Outcome: The Amazon Go model has revolutionized the retail
industry by providing a seamless and efficient shopping experience
without the need for traditional checkouts.
9.2 Face Recognition at Airports (Transportation):
Overview: Many airports worldwide have implemented facial
recognition systems for passenger verification and boarding.
How It Works: Passengers' faces are scanned at various points,
including check-in, security, and boarding gates. The system matches
the facial biometric data against a secure database to confirm identity.
Outcome: Facial recognition has streamlined the boarding
process, reducing queues and enhancing security by ensuring that the
person boarding matches the travel documents.
9.3 Gesture-Controlled Smart TVs (Entertainment):
Overview: Gesture recognition technology has been integrated
into smart TVs, allowing users to control the television using hand

gestures.
How It Works: Built-in cameras track hand movements, enabling
users to navigate menus, adjust volume, and control playback without
the need for a remote control.
Outcome: Gesture control enhances user convenience and
provides an interactive and futuristic television-watching experience.
9.4 Touchless Ticketing in Public Transportation (Transportation):
Overview: Many public transportation systems have adopted
touchless ticketing systems for a smoother and more efficient passenger
experience.
How It Works: Passengers can use contactless smart cards, mobile
apps, or QR codes for ticketing. The system automatically deducts the
fare when the passenger taps the card or scans the mobile app.
Outcome: Touchless ticketing systems reduce queues, improve
efficiency, and enhance the overall user experience in public
transportation.
9.5 Touchless Faucets in Commercial Spaces (Public Spaces):
Overview: Touchless faucets equipped with infrared sensors are
widely used in commercial spaces, including airports, malls, and public
restrooms.
How It Works: Infrared sensors detect the presence of hands,
activating the water flow. The water stops automatically when the user
removes their hands.
Outcome: Touchless faucets contribute to hygiene by minimizing
contact with surfaces, and they also promote water conservation by
ensuring water is only used when needed.

9.6 Voice-Activated Virtual Assistants (Smart Homes):

Overview: Voice-activated virtual assistants, such as Amazon
Alexa and Google Assistant, are integrated into smart home devices.
How It Works: Users can control various devices, such as lights,
thermostats, and smart appliances, using voice commands directed at
the virtual assistant.
Outcome: Voice-activated virtual assistants enhance the
convenience and accessibility of smart home systems, allowing users to
control their environment hands-free.
