SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
CAUTIONS FOR YOUR SAFETY
Before using this pump, read the INSTRUCTION MANUAL (S). Follow WARNING LABEL(S),
INSTRUCTION (S) and CAUTION PLATE (S) in order to use it correctly. It is also highly recommended
to ALWAYS KEEP the INSTRUCTION MANUAL (S) at the SAME PLACE for easy access.
TRANSPORTATION, INSTALLATION, PIPING, WIRING, OPERATION INSPECTION and MAINTENANCE
WORK must be done by ONLY a LICENSED and / or AUTHORIZED PERSON(S) who has enough knowledge
on health and safety rules and regulations as well as on his or her profession.
In any respect, we will NOT GUARANTEE any DEATH, INJURIES, DAMAGES AND LOSSES which are
result in modification without our written authorization or using and assembling unauthorized parts.
or imitation parts. Genuine parts must be used or assembled for replacement.
When DISPOSING a pump, any accessories, used parts and oil, they should be treated as a general
INDUSTRIAL WASTE.
WARNING LABEL(S) and SIGN in the instruction manual(S) are classified into WARNING, CAUTION and
NOTICE as described below.

serious injury.
CAUTION : indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in minor or
moderate injury
NOTICE : indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in damaging
or defecting a product. It will be only used for protecting the property, but not for
personal safety.

INSPECTION and MAINTENANCE
* When OVERHAULING the pump, carefully handle the HEAVY weighted parts ; especially, fitting a
HANGING WIRE.
DROPPING or FALLING → INJURY.
* Before STARTING a MAINTENANCE work, clearly SING IN MAINTENANCE WORK and CUT
ELECTRIC SUPPLY.
ELECTRIC SHOCK → DEATH
UNINTENDED ROTATION → ROLLED IN, BIT and PINCHED.

NOTICE
OPERATION and MANIPULATION
* Without a specific purpose, do not manipulate the valves and cocks attached to or supplied for the pump.
WRONG MANIPULATION → DAMAGING or DEFECTING the pump.

Pump operators and users are requested to read thoroughly this Instruction Manual before putting
the pump into operation, and make sure that the maintenance and inspection work is carried out
properly according to the manner as described in this manual.

Failure of doing so many result trouble of the pump, causing eventually a breakdown of the total
system.

Bolts, nuts, screws, etc. should be checked periodically if they are tightened securely to make
sure of no liquid leakage.

1. STRUCTURE / PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

This type VK is a vacuum pump of an eccentric rotor vane type. The main components of
the pump are casing, rotor, vanes and rotor shaft. The vacuum pump is effected by making
the center of the casing and rotor eccentric, thus creating a space (A) inside the casing from
which air is discharged by the movement of the vanes.
These vanes are fitted to the rotor and slided outward to the wall of the casing as the rotor
revolves and creates centrifugal force. Water sealing is adopted to make high degree of
vacuum and for cooling.
For water sealing, the circulating water tank is installed and connected to the vacuum pump
suction port by piping.
The driving of the pump is effected through a clutch pressed against the motor coupling of
the main pump, and when priming is over and the main pump begins to run at a normal rate,
the vacuum pump is stopped automatically by the hydraulic pressure led from the main
pump.

2. PREPARATION BEFORE STARTING

a. Check the water level of circulating water tank. Capacity is approx. 4 Lit.

b. Fully open the suction valve of the main pump.

c. Fully close the discharge valve of the main pump.

d. Turn the vacuum pump shaft by hand to see whether it turns smoothly.

e. Turn the friction pulley set nut counterclockwise until it runs idle, and the vacuum pump
friction pulley clutch will touch the main pump coupling friction pulley tightly.

f. Push the top of the check valve 2 or 3 times by finger and check that the spindle of check
valve is moved.

3. START UP
a. Start the prime mover.
b. Check the direction of rotation of the main pump.
c. After the pump is started to run, commences to suck water and pressure in pump casing
goes up, the vacuum pump is cut off automatically by the auto cut cylinder.
d. Slowly open the discharge valve and operate at the specified point. (Attend to the
indication on pressure gauge.)
e. Don’t operate the vacuum pump for more than 3 minutes when the pump is not primed up
due to the air invasion from the suction piping, etc.
f. While the main pump is running, and if the discharge pressure becomes lower than the
specified point and set pressure of the auto cut cylinder, the friction pulley clutch touches
to the main pump coupling friction pulley and makes the vacuum pump run. In this case,
increase the discharge pressure of main pump or tighten the friction pulley set nut not to
make it run automatically after the pump priming finished.

4. Inspection

The inspection should be carried out periodically according to the following period excepting the case of
abnormal conditions. But it is preferable that the operator should make a final plan of inspection in
accordance with actual conditions because it might be mutated due to the mounting method, installation
place, handling liquid and etc.

6. MIANTENANCE

At the time of the inspection for the main pump, maintain the vacuum pump in the following
procedure while checking the sectional drawing.

a. Inspection of turning

Check whether the vacuum pump is smoothly turned at the same time as the hand turning of
coupling for the main pump.

b. Inspection of self-priming performance

The vacuum pump is started at the same time as starting of the main pump.
Check the drain the water from over flow pipe and flowing of the water into the main pump.

Notice.
If the vacuum pump is not stopped after 3minutes from the main pump starting, stop the main
pump operation for the prevention of any damages for shaft seals or bearings.

c. Operation of auto cut cylinder

Check that the friction pulley clutch of the vacuum pump is left from the play coupling of
the main pump and stop its operation after increased the pressure in the casing of the main
pump.
