2 Metasys Integrator—Metasys Integrator Vilter Application
lntroduction
This document explains Metasys Integrator Vilter Manufacturing Corporation
applications. Use this document with the Metasys Integrator Technical Bulletin, which
provides information on installing and commissioning Metasys Integrator. For
information on Vilter equipment, see Vilter documentation (obtainable from Vilter
representative).

Application Metasys Integrator allows Vilter equipment to become an integral part of the Metasys
and Metasys Companion Networks. Once Vilter refrigeration controllers are connected
Details to a Metasys or Companion Network via the Metasys Integrator, their data is available to
the full complement of Metasys Facility Management System (FMS) features, including
Change-of-State (COS) monitoring, alarm notification, scheduling, trend, and totalization.
Metasys Integrator transmits both status information and commands between the Vilter
devices and the Metasys or Companion Network.
Metasys Integrator supports four Vilter controllers:
● Reciprocating Compressor
● Twin Screw Compressor
● Single Screw Compressor
● Evaporative Condenser
One controller (of any type) is designated as a master controller, and acts as the interface
between Vilter equipment and non-Vilter devices (such as Metasys Integrator). The
master controller connects to Metasys Integrator through the RS-232 Bus, and to the other
controllers through the RS-485 8044 BITBUS.
Each Metasys Integrator vendor port can connect to one master controller. Each master
controller can connect up to 250 Vilter controllers.
Figure 1 shows Vilter and Metasys integration, and Figure 2 shows Vilter and Metasys
Companion integration.

Component To integrate Vilter equipment, you’ll need the following components:

● properly installed Vilter devices
Requirements ● RS-232 cable (for connecting the master controller to Metasys Integrator)
● Metasys Integrator
● N2 Bus (for connecting Metasys Integrator to the Metasys or Companion Network)
● portable PC for downloading vendor communication tables (.VCT files) and
network setup information into Metasys Integrator, and for running diagnostics
● cable for connecting portable PC to Metasys Integrator
● the correct vendor communication table (.VCT file) to download into Metasys
Integrator (supplied on Metasys Integrator diskette)
This document describes the RS-232 cable and the vendor communication tables. Vilter
documentation describes their equipment. The remaining components are described in
the Metasys Integrator Technical Bulletin.

Metasys Release To integrate Vilter equipment into the Metasys Network, you’ll need:
Requirements ● Metasys OWS software Release 4.0 or higher
● Metasys Integrator software/firmware Release 2.0 or higher

Metasys To integrate Vilter equipment into the Metasys Companion Network, you’ll need:
Companion ● Metasys Companion Release 4.0 or higher
Release ● Metasys Integrator software/firmware Release 2.0 or higher
Requirements
Vendor Integration between Metasys Integrator and Vilter has been tested with the equipment
Component listed in Table 1. Changes to this equipment or integration of Vilter products not
Requirements discussed in this document will require additional software development and testing by

Design When integrating Vilter equipment, keep the following considerations in mind:
● Make sure all Vilter equipment is set up, started, and running properly before
Considerations attempting to integrate with the Metasys or Companion Network. (The Vilter
representative is responsible for operation of refrigeration controllers.)
● Make sure one of the controllers is designated as the master controller. (The Vilter
representative is responsible for defining the master controller.)
● Make sure the controller baud rate is set to 1200. (The Vilter representative is
responsible for setting the controller’s baud rate.)
● RS-232 cable distance between Metasys Integrator and the master controller can be
a maximum of 50 feet.
● Cable distance between the master controller and the last controller can be a
maximum of 4000 feet. Up to 28 controllers can be supported without the use of a
repeater (each repeater counts as one device).
