Trip Report

Date: September 7, 2023

To: Pier Le Compte Zambrana
From: Lurely Rodríguez Santana
Subject: Workshop: Oculus Quest

Introduction
The purpose of this report is to present a detailed summary of the workshop “Oculus
Quest”. The Federal Project ET2 held the workshop on September 7, 2023. It was presented by
the students: Deyaneira Carrion, Alexandra Santi, Shaina Cruz, and Alondra Padilla. The
workshop took place in room MTC3 of the Ruth Fortuño Academic Building of the University of
Puerto Rico at Ponce (UPRP) and lasted 45 minutes. The university community attended.

Workshop Summary
The workshop offered an introduction to the Federal Project ET2 where the students
emphasized that they are a group of female engineering students at the UPRP, dedicated to
increasing the participation of women in the Department of Engineering. The presenters spoke
primarily about the virtual reality headset known as Oculus Quest or Meta Quest. These are
three-dimensional virtual environment visualization devices that allow to reproduce images
created by computers on a screen close to the eyes.
ET2 explained a brief timeline of the virtual reality devices, which begins with the
founding of Oculus in 2012 by Palmer Leukey in California and ends in October 2023 with the
release of Quest 3. Also, information was provided about the main uses of the Oculus Quest and
their contribution to the engineering field. The presenters emphasized that the functions of the
devices are:
a) Exercises
b) Design
c) Record
d) Work
e) Video Games
Other important points, such as the visualization of the Oculus Quest, were discussed by
ET2 through interactive videos. One of the videos presented a 360° view of the Oculus Quest
including the buttons, adapters, settings, how to put them on and programs included. Also, the
Federal Project informed the university community that the technologies in the Col Space can be
used through a booking process, including the Oculus Quest, the laser cutter and 3D printers.

Conclusion
The information provided is useful for the professional life of a student of engineering
since the devices presented allows them to visualize any project of interest. Also, these
workshops introduce a virtual reality that can be used in many ways for development, study, and
entertainment. I recommend that students interested in applying technology in their field of study
take the opportunity to attend workshops like this one to expand their knowledge and take
advantage of the resources that ET2 provides.
