SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY – 79761 10/02/23

Answer the following questions:

1. What is your score in the Self-Monitoring Scale? What does this score mean?

- My score on the Self-Monitoring Scale is 61 over 100. It means that I am neither a high
nor low self-monitor.

2. Is your result accurate (that you are high/ low monitor)?

- I consider the result to be accurate because sometimes, I tend to focus or I rely on my

personal values and beliefs to determine how to act in my environment and with the
people I meet. But there are times that I adjust my behavior, the way I act just to fit in,
in the crowd.

3. What can you say about the meaning of your score? (150 words min.)

- Back in my younger years, I can say that I don’t care about what other people say about
my behavior as long as I don’t harm others. I only care about myself and am less
concerned about how others perceive me. But things changed when I reached the
adolescent stage. I became shy and always checked or monitored my behavior around
people. Sometimes I might think that I am a people pleaser because, even though I can’t
seem to fit in, I’ll try my best to adjust my behavior in order for others to like me,
include me, or vice versa. I also don’t want others to feel left out, so I adjust my
behavior to theirs. The meaning of my scores will definitely not define the person that I
am. But it is possible in some cases because I am flexible, meaning I can adjust my
behavior to what I am surrounded by, or I tend to focus on my own and not worry about
how I act around other people. It can be draining most times, but now that I am old
enough to understand things, I can say that while we’re living here, come out of your
shell and don’t be too hard on yourself trying to please everyone or so focused on your
own behavior that you tend to forget to check your own to see if it is good or bad. Just
live and enjoy life.
