Through this presentation, I will be

sharing my knowledge about the contextual factors that shape the development of resourcing and
talent development strategies in Innosson Vehicle Manufacturing Co. Ltd, Nigeria.

To start with, it is important to note that modern day human resource managers are saddled with
the responsibility to obtain and retain the human capital needed for organisatinal successs
through resourcing and talent development.

Resourcing implies the attraction and recruitment of personnel that are needed by an
organization to perform specific roles and functions. It is the process of hiring the best human
resources with good skillset at a minimum cost

In Innosson Vehicle Manufacturing Co. Ltd, Nigeria, just like in most modern business
organisations, human resource practices are evident and the recruitment process of Innosson
Vehicle Manufacturing Co. Ltd has been a subject of discussion in the recent past. This is why
the organisation is selected for this study.

Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Co. Ltd is an automobile company located in Nigeria. It was
established in 1978 with the aim to make durable and affordable automobiles for Africans The
company involves in manufacturing and sale of vehicles.

The company embarks on a staff specification process to determine the human characteristics
required by the staff using the psychometric approach to recruitment. Using the psychometric
approach, Innosson considers intelligence as a major criterion for recruitment. In this sense, the
company uses a mental-ability test to discover the characteristics to perform.

Innosson has four Human Resource Strategies in which the company utilises as talent
development strategies. These strategies include job description, development opportunities,
performance assesssment and effective compensation.
Innosson often utilises both internal and external methods of recruitment. The internal methods
include referral, contractor to full workers, role changes and promotion. On the other hand, the
external methods are Print advertising, social media, agencies and advert through company’s
website.

Contextual Factors

This report explains the influence of contextual factors on recruitment and selection using both
institutional perspective and contingency perspective.

The institutional perspective argues that recruitment process is not absolutely the product of
rational strategic decision making rather it is a decision taken by organisations to meet social and
institutional demands. On the other hand, the contingency perspective argues that the human
resource practices can be said to be shaped by the contingencies of a particular situation.

In this report, I explain the contextual factors that may influence Innosson Vehicle
Manufacturing Co. Ltd, Nigeria recruitment practices using three major contexts, which include
legal, social and environmental contexts.

Legal Context

From the legal context, delaying in the applications process may seem like discrimination to
some applicants as a tactic to prevent them getting the job in Innosson Vehicle Manufacturing
Co. Ltd.

Also, spelling out competency attributes for individuals may be considered discrimination for an
applicant who has the skill and qualification but falls outside the specified attributes as
determined by Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Co. Ltd.

Social Context
The recruitment practice can be influence by the sum total of a society’s norm and values.
Innosson cannot operate outside the standard ways of recruitment that the Nigerian society
upholds.

Environmental Context

Given to the environment context, the recruitment practice of Innosson must portray the
corporate social responsibility of the company. Innosson has social responsibility towards the
communities it operates. Job opportunities can be provided for people in its host communities to
avert crises. This is because some of Innosson operations or activities are capable of causing
pollution or destruction to natural resources in its host communities.

Recommendations

It is recommended that Innosson Vehicle Manufacturing Co. Ltd must understand the best way
of recruiting ethical employees. This can be done through the application of the “best practice
approach” to select employees who will fit into the organisation culture.

As regard the lessons learnt in this module, I must say that the module has exposed me to the
contextual factors that mostly influence resourcing and talent development in different
organisations. The module provides me with different human resource management strategies
options which I can use in the implementation of resourcing and development strategies.
