My consumer in our society class gave me an opportunity to research and evaluate the poverty

rates in the U.S, specifically with single parents. As a single parent myself I saw firsthand the
effects and hardships of poverty. I provided researched statistics, and provided ways I believed
we could lower poverty rates through high quality education and more funding for schools,
implementing a minimum for corporate taxes, and increasing minimum wage.
My second artifact is simply a collection of photos of me serving the less fortunate in different
areas. I love serving and being able to help those in need brings me a great sense of fulfillment. I
have served many deployments with Samaritan’s Purse for U.S Disaster Relief as well as
gathering a group together evert year to serve at the Baltimore OCC shoebox processing center. I
also serve annually with the Pittsburgh food bank for their annual turkey drive for Thanksgiving,
and this year for the first time I served with “Amen to Action” where I helped pack over 100,000
meals for Thanksgiving. One of my most frequent serving opportunities is with “Light Of Life
Rescue Mission.” It is a homeless shelter in Pittsburgh and once a month I go and serve breakfast
to the homeless.
I am always looking for ways to help the less fortunate. I believe we need to help one another,
and being able to relate to low-income hardships makes this a justice near and dear to my heart.
It is not easy for everyone who needs help to ask for it, and it can feel embarrassing and
shameful to need help. I want to make sure everyone who needs help gets it.
