INTRODUCTION
RADIANT
Radiant is a newly created
queer collective of Rajdhani
College providing a safe and
open space for the discussion
and expression of the diverse
identities of people on the
LGBTQIA+ spectrum.
OBSTACLES FACED
1) Being from off campus college where people are
from rural background, most of the queer crowd is
not ready to come out, afraid of being outed
without their consent and being bullied by their
fellow classmates.
2) Allies who want to support but don't because of
the fear of being labelled and outlooked.
3) Blatant homophobia among students in the
campus making queer students uncomfortable
and unsafe
4) Lack of awareness amongst teachers and staff
members.
5) Refusal to recognise queer collective as an
official society
6) No strict measures taken against offenders
who partake in harassment and bullying
against queer students
7) Administration is highly queer-unfriendly
8) Politics on campus is strictly dominated by
upper caste right wing people, which leaves no
opportunity for queer representation and our
voices are silenced
STRATEGIES
Devised
1. We will be organizing online
orientation program in which we will be
explaining about what actually queer
collective is, it's objective, why it is needed
in our college so that people who are afraid
of being outed can also attend without
their identity being revealed... It would be
open for all...
2. We'll be explaining about LGBTQ from
class to class and in public areas like
canteen, play-ground etc.
3. We'll be having a signature campaign asking people if they
are keen to form a queer collective in our college or not..
4. We'll approach teachers to get our collective registered like
other societies.
5. We'll be collaborating with other cells, departments, and
societies to conduct events(till the collective is not registered)
6. we'll be including/raising issues of other marginalized
classes like dalits, religious minorities, tribals etc
7. We will not be restricted to students only, we will include
teachers, non-teaching staff and people living near the campus
area in the queer collective.
8. We'll be ensuring that people living around or near the
campus area are safe and inclusive even if they are not from
the college.
9. We'll also reach out students who do not have queer
collective in their college.
10. We'll include sex education, mental health sort of
campaigns in Queer collective
11. We'll be demanding for the queer culture representation in
cultural programs and fests in the college.
CONCLUSION
It was so difficult to initiate a queer collective
in an off campus college where people from
students to teachers are so homophobic and
right wingers.
Radiant is not official yet..We are struggling
to get it registered despite of so many
obstacles infront of us...
