MOTIVATION LETTER
Dear Sir or Madam,My name is
Faikha’ Fairuz Firdausi
and I am currently studying Bachelor of International Relations atMuhammadiyah
University Malang. I am interested in applying for the Erasmus Mundus External
Cooperation Windows “
Let
’
s Move Together
” Program as I would love the opportunity to study in Europe, a
region where differences embedded as one in the European Union. In this motivation
letter, I would like toexpress briefly about my reasons in applying for the program.
Generally, there are two main reasonshighlighting my desire to pursue study in Europe,
the first is for my academic objective and the other is for my interests and both of them
are related each other. What initially attracted me to the study of International Relations
was the opportunity to learn aboutcountries and cultures that are different from my own. Through
my studies, I have been able to learn aboutthe history, culture and politics of other countries.
This study has taught me many skills, allowed me toopen my mind and critically think
about the country that I live in, and the way my country actsinternationally. It was my
study in International Relations which has brought me to be a delegate in the 1
st
InternationalConference on Globalization, Governance, and Sustainability for Youth in
ASEAN held by Universiti SainsMalaysia. We presented our papers and discussed problems
occurred among us the ASEAN member countries. Since then, I realized that in order to unify and
integrate different countries is not an easy way togo. There are always problem arise and
obstacles occur. However, when I then see to the European Union,
there’s something emerges my curiosity. Seeing the fact that different countries can be
integrated as one in
harmony is a very great thing to achieve. It makes me believe that I have to find out on
how to make itcome true. I really want to learn on how they can maintain their unity,
while the substantial point is tomanage the differences. Therefore, experiencing the
study in Europe first hand would be a valuableopportunity for me
. I really hope that I can get the chance, so that when I’m home, I can
apply what I havelearned about maintaining unity and managing differences in my home
country. My bigger dream is tocreate harmony in ASEAN, the region where I live in. I
want to create good integration among the countrymembers with the development of
many aspects in this world due to globalization. I have some plans toassemble my
friends from different member countries in ASEAN in order to discuss more about how
tocreate harmony and the better future for our regional cooperation. This knowledge
acquired from EuropeanUnion will create good nutrients to fill our discussion later on.I
’
m planning to take Political Studies in this program, as my major is in the political
science. However, I alsowant to study more about culture, in which it is embedded not
only in the political studies. Therefore, Ichoose political sciences and other cultural
program. Because, in my opinion, I order to know how thecountry is we have to know
not only its politics, but also its culture and history. Culture itself not only can beseen in
the way of life. Other simple matters such as music, folklores, as well as language can
be viewedas the reflection of culture too. This culture shapes people
’
s way of life. It creates different point of view of each person. It will also affect their habit
in treating others. Therefore, it can be seen in their politicalmovement, as one country has
different political movement with other countries. I
’
m really interested in it,because it will also help me in defining how culture would impact
political movement, because I consider itas unique and attractive. Therefore, I
’
m really looking forward for this chance to pursue further studies inEurope. Meanwhile, I
also have my personal desire to experience life in Europe. The differences betweenmy
home country and European country are varied from geographic to the way of life. For
an Asian studentaccustomed with two seasons country such as me, experiencing life in
four seasons countries would beunforgettable. Of course with that difference, the people
culture would be different too. Given the fluctuatingtemperature where you can have
flower blooms around you in one time and piles of snow in the other time,it would be
somewhat fun and interesting for me. I really hope I can experience it soon.
And I got a piece of news on social media that the second cohort
for the Apple Developer Academy is open, and it even better;
because they increased the quota, they accept more students, thus
I can get more friends and networks.
The Test
the test itself consists of three sections; Technology, Design,
and Business.
the Design and Business question is quite easy for me, because I
have read a lots of UI / UX articles on the internet (and learn
about it too), and I also subscribed to some startup media so I
know a little bit about business terminologies such as B2C B2B
C2C and the other kind of alphabet soup.
joey confused, or maybe doing calculations in his head.
one advice from me if you took the test; before the test, prepare a
pencil and papers to work on the mathematical questions. they
didn’t suggest it, so I don’t bring any, and I do the calculation in
my head. (you cannot step out of your chair once you’ve opened
the test. if you do so you will be disqualified. a piece of extra
advice: go to the toilet before the test)
the test is done, and I’m quite confident. I still have 20 minutes
remaining but I decided to submit it immediately.
The Interview
The interview place (Green office park 9) is quite far from my
house, but fortunately, I got an App that can easily find me a
public transportation route to go there. (i can’t go there with a
motorcycle because I don’t have a driver license) so I confirmed
that I can attend the interview, and I get there.
I came too early, the interview is on 3 pm but I’ve arrived there at
2, so after filling the guestbook I just wandering around and meet
the other candidates (and get acquainted as well). we exchange
some ‘useful information’ (mainly about the test, where we get the
info about the academy, our private life, etc).
The other guys are cool too, they come from the various
background, including management, business, design, and
freelancers too!
It’s started
a very beautiful girl opens the door, and give us a name tag and
ask us to enter the interview room. the interview room itself is
inside the academy’s ‘classroom’, so when walking to the room we
can see the other students that currently in the training. the room
was so clean and white, I think there’s no dust in there.
and I also not forget to take a photo after the interview, because,
who knows if someday we will ever meet again?
the cool kids

I believe the best Cover Letter I can write is based on my love for Apple. I can’t tell you I have
ever sat in line for days waiting for a product launch because I don’t have the luxury of living in
the US and our “quasi-Apple” stores in Honduras suck to say the least. However, I can say 3
things with great pride:
First, that I have been an Apple fan since the Apple IIe, simply because that’s around the time I
was born and have recollection. We used to spend summers in San Francisco at my uncle’s
house. He worked for United Airlines and had a simple house but not without his Apple
computer. My fondest memories of summers in San Fran were programming those cheesy loops
used to make hearts and faces on the screen by printing out characters in a certain order; and the
other, playing Where in the World is Carmen San Diego! God I loved that game.
Second, that i have been shunned for being an Apple user and I enjoyed it. Although I used my
first Apple at my uncle’s house in the 80’s, I didn’t buy my own first Apple MacBook Pro until
2000, just before entering my MBA program. As a business school, it was all about pragmatism,
and compatibility issues and out dated versions of software were all but damning because
everyone made fun of me. A professor joked about me having paid a Coke’s worth for “that
ugly thing” as he put it and still gotten change in return. He joked about how its resale value was
zero and how Apple would die just like betamax, since it was one of the case studies we worked
on. I remember how in reviewing that case study we were told how when 2 competing
technologies tried to dominate the market, the winner was the one that was able to surround itself
with accessories which made it indispensable. And 10 years later Steve Jobs went ahead and did
just that! Id like to meet that professor again and show him my shiny new 2011 MBA, a market
breakthrough product, not a follower.
And third, that I love Apple products, am a fan-boy, love converting people, believe our products
are a work of Art and would buy my milk from Apple if you had a Milk Division. I can
appreciate the customer attention to detail Apple has. Its not really customer service because a
service almost implies something that is paid for and in return, because of the commitment
acquired by the employee, he provides that service. I live in a country where even franchise-
trained personnel doesn’t provide good customer service. This is my life 360 days of the year.
Then all of a sudden I go to Miami and rush to an Apple Store, not always for a product, just for
the experience. I love walking into a place and have someone walk up to me and genuinely ask
me if there is anything they can help me with. Even if I didn’t have anything in mind before I
walked in, I think of something, anything, just for the “feeling of satisfaction” I get when they
solve a problem for me or recommend something that ends up making my life easier or what
not. That truly is priceless.

REPORT THIS AD
I love converting people because when I pick up my old iPhone 4 and show it to someone, I take
off the banged up protective case in order to show the brand-new product still intact. I remember
I used to buy Ford trucks and people would ask me why I preferred them over Chevy. My
answer always came back: “Because of the quality of sound the door makes when you close it”.
It just tells you its a quality truck. The same thing happens when you hold an iPhone or iPad or
Mac or accessory…it just feels good. I can feel the quality and appreciate the workmanship that
went into creating that “device”. Yet its not just a device, and I can tell because when I sell an
old model to get a new one, the buyer gets his iPhone with the original plastic cover sticker still
on the front and back, or white sheet of paper that comes with a macbook pro. I do it because I
want that new Apple user to become a fan boy by having the same experience I did when I got it
new!
You know what, even if I never get a job at Apple, I would just like Steve Jobs to get this cover
letter. It would be enough satisfaction for me to know that he received this letter as a
compliment and a big Thank You for how you have affected the life of this one customer and
how grandly I think of Apple and its people.
