Technology for Teaching and Learning 1

Lesson 1: The TPACK Framework (Enhancement)

Activity 1.3: Applying TPACK in Lesson Planning

Following the sample lesson flow presented in our discussion for this lesson, plan a sample lesson guide
for the

following learning competency in a Grade 7 lesson in science:

Describe the development of measurement from the primitive to the present international system of
units.

(M7ME-IIa-2, p. 209, K to 12 Mathematics Curriculum Guide)

Start by writing your lesson objectives. What do you want your students to do? You may refer
to the cell

anatomy example we discussed in this lesson to get a good grasp of how learning objectives sound like.
There is no

fixed number of objectives for any lesson that you might plan, but see to it that your students can
achieve them within

the given time period (usually one hour for junior high school subjects).

Write your objectives below:

1. Describe units of measurement.

2. Compare the different methods of measurement from primitive to the present international system of
units.

3. Solve real-world problems involving different units of measurement.

Now identify the different types of knowledge you would need for this lesson:

Content knowledge — Concept about the topic:

Nature and the importance of measurements.

How methods of measurement from primitive different to the present international

system.

Pedagogical knowledge — Ability to facilitate different teaching strategies through collaborative learning
and classroom management.

Technological knowledge — Effective integration of technological tools to enhance students` learning

and

to deepen their understanding of the topic.

Finally, list down some activities that you can let your students do, applying the TPACK framework:

1. I will break down the class into five groups. And assign them different topics on the various methods
used by

primitive people to measure things and relate those methods to the present. I want them to research by
using

digital tools to collect information and collaborate.

2. In doing research, the quality of their content should be from a reliable website or source.

3. Students are expected to present their gathered information through a PowerPoint presentation.

4. After all the presentations, they will upload/share their file in Messenger to let their classmates view
their

presentations
