Ice Cold: Murder, Coffee and Jessica Wongso

By Ellena Agnes Yoaneva a.k.a girl in love

This film focuses on the case of Jessica Kumalawongso or what is often known as the
coffee cyanide case. This case has attracted a lot of attention since 2016, especially because
of the many issues circulating such as "Jessica, Mirna and Mirna's husband are involved in a
love triangle", "Jessica and Mirna are in a relationship like a couple", "in this case there is a
mafia". This documentary presents many questions that remain unanswered in this case, years
after the wedding. “They are friends, what is their true motive? Is this really a murder case?
Is there strong evidence that Jessica did it?"
The scene/part in the film that I like is when Mirna was examined within 70 minutes
after she died and found that her stomach was negative for cyanide (42:58). Otto Hasibuan
(lawyer Jessica Kumala Wongso) asked Dr. Djaja Surya Atmadja (forensic expert) "With the
results of this examination, what is your conclusion? (42:10). Dr. Djaja Surya answered
firmly "the death was not due to cyanide" (42:14). And the scene/part that I don't like in this
documentary is when I Wayan Mirna Salihin's father cries over his daughter's coffin. I really
don't like this scene. Why? Because the crying felt so fake, it made me feel disgusted (51:00).
And the second scene that I don't like is when Mirna's father brings in a forensic psychologist
who tries to label that Mirna's face is like a psychopath (narcissistic psycho). He looks at
Jessica's facial physiognomy (jaw) that Jessica is the vengeful type. and want to be pitied. I
really don't like this scene, because everything about us is God's creation, what right do
humans have to create someone's ugliness based on the shape of their face (physiology)
(1:01:13).
I quote the moral message in the film Ice Cold: Murder, Coffee and Jessica Wongso
from the strong figure Jessica who endured her pain and cried in front of the camera and the
court audience & never admit/clarify something you never did. And the final scene (ending)
shows a clown who takes on a role to entertain the public, giving the message that some
people who are less fortunate have to play roles built/made by people who don't want to be
responsible. This means that the Indonesian legal system must be changed immediately.
Other people will also get wisdom about "never judge other people without knowing the true
reality (from the cover), because no one is worthy of judging other people in this world".
I think this film is very suitable for all groups, especially for lovers of thriller and
mystery genre films. I really recommend this film especially to law students, because through
this film we will find out how bad Indonesian law is? This film is really good and suspenseful
so it aroused my curiosity about "how this case will end after this documentary".
I give this movie a score of 9.5/10. I feel this film is truly extraordinary, because it
provides the answer "who really is the victim's (Mirna) family in this case?" This
documentary introduces how brave and tough Mirna's father was, but his toughness backfired
on him.
