A. Dr. Jesus planned an alternative way of testing whether his students understood the nature
of the study of the Humanities. He assigned an old Filipino movie entitled “Insiang”
which was directed the late Lino Brocca. The class manifested a great deal of interest in
the film and made excellent reports and critiques. Lina and Marivic, had a heated
argument and dispute over the critique of each other. The former, critique that the movie
was too insidious and gave an ugly description of the country and its culture, the latter
disagreed and explained that the beauty of the movie is not dependent on the descriptions
of the setting but must be evaluated in terms of its plot and message.

Dr. Jesus asks you to resolve the issue between Lina and Marivic. What will you tell the
class? Whose party are you going to support or reject? Why? Answer in 5-6 sentences.

B. Benjamin is a psychology major and a transferee student in MEDICI DI MAKATI

COLLEGE who will take up Introduction to Humanities next semester. He approached
you and ask; “What is the significance of having to take Humanities for someone who is
studying psychology?” Answer in 4-5 sentences (10 points)

C. Read twice the poem “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley on page 2. What is the central
meaning of his poem? How does this poem applies to you and your circumstances? What
images surfaced when you read the poem? Which line struck you the most and why?
Answer in 8-10 sentences. (20 points)
