AVIONIC(AVM) BK117
MANUAL D-2/BK117
(AVM) 2m/ 3/ D-2

1. Content:
This AVM subpart shows the electrical integration of customized avionic systems, basically by
means of wiring diagrams, drawings and parts lists. Information about the mechanical integration
of system components into the aircraft (e.g. exploded assembly drawings, mounting material, etc.)
is included in subpart “Mechanical Integrations”. For software configurations and information about
supplemental, software based system hardware like data cards, etc., see AVM part C “System
Settings”.
Take also account of possibly installed aircraft retrofits and the related information listed in AVM
part D “Aircraft Retrofits Customized Systems”.
Prior to any maintenance and repair actions pay attention to the general information and safety
advices included in section 00-10-20!
Airbus Helicopters has installed a modular wiring diagram system, consisting of module wiring
diagrams and interconnection wiring diagrams. The modular wiring diagram system together with
the wire designation explained in paragraph 4. shall provide an easy and detailed signal tracing in
case of component or system failure.
Main units are represented on their own specific wiring diagrams. These wiring diagrams are
called module wiring diagrams and enclose the units themselves and all connection lines
necessary for operation such as power lines, signal lines, control lines etc.. These lines are
drawn as solid lines in the module wiring diagrams.
Solid drawn components are included in the corresponding parts list of the documentary unit.
The interconnection between the particular module wiring diagrams is done in different
interconnection wiring diagrams. In these wiring diagrams, the wires of the module wiring
diagrams are drawn as dashed lines.
Standard interconnection wiring diagrams:
Wiring diagram “ANTENNA INTERFACE” shows the interconnection between the receiver
/ transmitter and their antennas.
Wiring diagram “INDICATOR INTERFACE” shows the interconnection of the signal and
control lines between the associated systems.
Wiring diagram “GROUND SYSTEM COMM/NAV” shows the ground terminals where the
respective ground lines from the separate modular wiring diagrams are connected to.
Following schematic diagram gives an example for the modular wiring diagram system:

This paragraph describes additional standards for maintenance and repair concerning the
electrical integration of customized avionics. Common standard procedures for maintenance or
repair work on electrical systems are defined in the Standard Practices Manual (MTC).
For maintenance procedures concerning system main units (e.g. transceivers, receivers,
processing units, indicators, controls, antennas, etc.) refer to the corresponding system
description sections of the Avionic Manual.
A. General Hints:
Electrical components are marked with an electrical identifier according the related wiring
diagram to ensure their correct identification in the aircraft. Installation information, wiring and
part numbers are included in the documents of the AVM subparts “Electrical Integrations” and
“Mechanical Integrations”.
NOTE If a component part number has been replaced by another part number, the replaced
part number is listed with the hint “replaced by …” and quantity “0” in the
corresponding parts list of the Avionic Manual.
Notice, unless otherwise stated, parts with the replaced part number are still usable
spare parts.
B. Wiring:

RD: Red
YE: Yellow

Information about other wire types referenced in the wiring diagrams of the Avionic
Manual is included in the corresponding AVM parts lists.
After maintenance or repair actions it has to be ensured, that the wire harnesses are
correctly routed and secured:
If attachment parts used to secure a wire harness are removed (e.g. ty–raps, spacers,
lacing cords, etc.), these attachment parts have to be installed again.
Ensure that there is enough distance between wire harnesses and components.
If necessary, attachment parts or chafing protection have to be installed additionally.
C. Relays:
Information about type, electrical and mechanical integration is included in the corresponding
sections of the Avionic Manual. A procedure for replacement is described in section 20-80-20-
413 of the Standard Practices Manual (MTC).
D. Terminal Blocks:
Information about type, electrical and mechanical integration is included in the corresponding
sections of the Avionic Manual. A procedure for replacement is described in section 20-80-20-
413 of the Standard Practices Manual (MTC).
E. Connectors:
Information about types, electrical integrations and if necessary also information about
mechanical integrations is included in the corresponding sections of the Avionic Manual.
Standard procedures needed to replace connectors are described in section 20-80-20 of the
Standard Practices Manual (MTC).
In any case, electrical contacts are not enclosed to the part number of an electrical component
or the needed contacts differ to the enclosed standard contacts information about the
necessary contact types is included in the respective AVM parts list. The quantity of contacts
referenced in the parts lists is usually the maximum quantity of contacts for the component
and is not derived from the really installed number of contacts. For information about
replacement of electrical contacts and sealing plugs see section 20-80-20 of the Standard
Practices Manual (MTC).
Information about type, electrical and mechanical integration is included in the corresponding
sections of the Avionic Manual. For maintenance procedures to replace indicator lamps or
illuminated switches see section 20-80-20-437 of the Standard Practices Manual (MTC).
Unless otherwise stated in the corresponding sections of the Avionic Manual, safetying and
locking assemblies, e.g. installation of safety wires, should be executed in accordance with
section 20-02-06 of the Standard Practices Manual (MTC).
Unless otherwise stated in the Avionic Manual, the installation, maintenance and repair of
parts and consumables used to integrate customized avionics should be in accordance with
the Standard Practices Manual (MTC) and section 20-00-00 of the Aircraft Maintenance
Manual (AMM).
