CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter discusses the research design, research environment, research

respondents, research instruments, data-gathering procedure, and statistical treatment.

Research Design

This study uses the quantitative method and particularly the use of descriptive as

a research design. In gathering the data and information we conducted a survey to the

Grade 12 students who are currently studying at the University of Cebu Pardo-Talisay to

determine how nutritious food can affect academic performance. This study tackles how

nutrition affects students' academic performance.

Research Environment

This study will be conducted on the Garde 12 students of the University of Cebu,

Pardo and Talisay which is located at Natalio B. Bacalso Ave, Cebu City, Cebu. The

researcher chose this environment because the researcher found out that there are a lot

of students who loves to eat unhealthy foods such as junk food, soft drink, and deep-

fried food. By eating many of these foods it can negatively impact the students’

academic performance.

Research Respondents

50 Grade 12 students who are enrolled at the University of Cebu Pardo Talisay

serve as the research respondents for this study. Notably, the 50 pupils span multiple

strands of the Grade 12 curriculum, reflecting a diversity of academic interests.

Students from several strands are included in the study, guaranteeing a thorough and

inclusive examination of the connection between a healthy diet and academic

achievement. A more comprehensive knowledge of how dietary practices affect

academic achievement across various academic fields is made possible by the lack of a

specialized strand focus.

The distribution of respondents throughout the several strands is shown in the

table below, along with the number of students and matching % within each strand. In

order to provide more thorough research on the relationship between a healthy diet and

academic achievement among Grade 12 students at the University of Cebu Pardo

Talisay, this stratified approach guarantees a balanced representation of students from

various academic backgrounds.

Research Instruments

The research approach of this study was quantitative. The survey questionnaires

made by the researchers were all accurate and will be used to gather data from 50

students. The questionnaire is a set of orderly arranged questions carefully prepared to

answer individually to collect facts and information. The instrument is divided into 3

parts, including the demographic profile in the form checklist, participants were asked to

score each indication (agree, somewhat agree, neutral, disagree, strongly disagree) and

the relationship between nutrition and academic performance.

The instruments that the researchers have adapted in a research study are about the

students' dietary habits, perceptions of the impact of nutrition on academic performance,

factors influencing food choices, as well as questions exploring the connection between

specific nutritional aspects and academic success. The instrument might also seek

information on overall health, attendance patterns, and psychological well-being

concerning students' nutrition.

PART 1 PROFILE OF THE RESPONDENTS. The first part of the questionnaire will

contain the demographic data of the respondents. It includes age, gender, academic
major or course of study, socioeconomic background, and Residential status (e.g., living

on campus or off-campus)

PART 2 RESPONDENTS' TIME MANAGEMENT. The second part of the questionnaire

includes statements that are structured; participants were asked to score each

indication. In this survey type, four choices are provided for every statement, these

choices are (agree, somewhat agree, neutral, disagree, and strongly disagree). This

scale represents the students' time management.

PART 3 RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN NUTRITION AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE.

The third part of the questionnaire it examines various aspects, including sources and

awareness of nutritional information, dietary patterns, meal preparation, accessibility of

healthy food options, lifestyle factors like extracurricular activities and time

management, as well as respondents' self-perceptions of academic performance,

motivations, goals, health-related concerns, and suggestions for enhancing support for

healthier dietary habits.

The researchers will take a quantitative approach, focusing on numeric

quantification and results generalization. The information will be used to develop a

proposed action plan.

Data Gathering Procedure

The Researcher had allotted vigorous time, effort, and cooperation in

developing their questionnaire to serve its intended respondents. The survey is related

to nutritious food for academic performance in grade 12 students.

The Researcher will seek permission from 50 Grade 12 students as

respondents of the study from the University of Cebu Pardo Talisay. Through survey

questionnaire. A Transmittal Letter will be approved and signed by the research

adviser.

Once the transmittal letter is approved, the researcher will begin to disseminate

the survey questionnaire to the 50 Grade 12 students who are the respondents.

Through researcher questionnaire. This will help to determine the Grade 12 students'

academic performance in the students to the studying.
