1. The Role of Human Resources Management on Enhancing the Teaching

Skills of Faculty Members
Nafiseh Rafiei1 and Fereshte Davari2

Human performance in organizations reflects on the knowledge, skills, behaviors,

and values. Since the abilities and skills will help the organization to better
performance and productivity, any expenditure on education and development is
a long term investment that as long as the organization can benefit from it. The
aim of this research is assessment of influence of structured workshops by
resource management at different levels of acquaintance, skills, updates, and
upgrades in field of teaching before teaching for invited professors and tuition.

So in a case study in the first semester of the academic year of 91- 92, 30
teachers with no teaching experience in tuition PNU after internal interview was
selected as a sample. Then their awareness of indicators of effective teaching
and training allowance of two categories before and after the workshop assessed
and evaluated by a questionnaire.

The results of descriptive and inferential statistical analysis indicates that the
52/4% of the professors of the age group 25-30, and 38/1% are in the age group
31-36. Also 76/2% percent of teachers have graduated from the National
University and the rest of the teacher have graduated from Azad or Payamenoor
University. Also there is significant difference between the knowledge of laws and
regulations and effective teaching index before and after the workshop on four
indicators: evaluation of students, teaching methods, planning, behavioral
patterns and rules and regulations PNU. So it shows the impact of targeted
workshops and the role of education experts in the process of recreating human
resource management in higher education systems.

Reaction:

People are the principal resource and input of organizations, and they bring
unique and valuable skills to the workplace. As such, a lot of researches about Human
Resource Management have been conducted across the globe.

This particular research aims to assess the influence of structured workshops by

resource management at different levels of acquaintance, skills, updates, and upgrades
in field of teaching before teaching for invited professors and tuition. It goes to show that
there is significant difference between the knowledge of laws and regulations and
effective teaching index before and after the workshop on four indicators. Hence,
structured workshops were found to have impact on the evaluation of students, teaching
methods, planning, behavioral patterns and rules and regulations in PNU.

In my own point of view, as a teacher, I do agree that human resource

management in any organization should actually invest on human capability building,
workshops and seminars in order to address the gaps and weaknesses among the
people working for an organization.

2. The necessity for schools to implement human resources management (HRM) is

increasingly acknowledged. Specifically, HRM holds the potential of increasing
student outcomes through the increased involvement, empowerment and
motivation of teachers. In educational literature, however, little empirical attention
is paid to the ways in which different HRM practices could be bundled into a
comprehensive HRM system (content) and how HRM could best be implemented
to attain positive teacher and student outcomes (process). Regarding the
content, and following the ‘AMO theory of performance’, it is argued that HRM
systems should comprise (A) ability-, (M) motivation- and (O) opportunity-
enhancing HRM practices. Regarding the process, and based on ‘HRM system
strength’ literature, it is argued that when teachers perceive HRM as distinctive
and consistent, and if they perceive consensus, this will enhance teachers’ and
schools’ performance. By combining insights from educational studies on single
HRM practices with HRM theories, this paper builds a conceptual framework
which can be used to design HRM systems and to understand the way they
operate.

Reaction:

The broad purpose of the human resource management function in any

educational organization is to attract, develop, retain, and motivate personnel in
order to achieve the school's mission. It defines the school's 'people
objectives'(Butler, Norma, 1999) . However, as we move towards the twenty first
century many schools have yet to realize the full dimensions of human resource
management functions.
In my point of view, this kind of research may reveal valuable perceptions
of the status of human resource management. This may show how human
resource management practices may be instrumental in introducing change into
schools, and that those changes may be implemented through the defined HR
practices. I agree to the idea that human resource management should be a
shared responsibility to be carried out with consistency. And yes, if done so, this
may become a strength of an organization to bear a more motivated employee.
Further, this study may assist in determining a relationship between effective
human resource management functions and increased student learning
outcomes.

3. The Relationship between Human Resource Practices and Firm Performance

Case Study: The Philippine Firms Empirical Assessment by Bella Llego

Abstract—This study on “The relationship between human resource practices

and Firm Performance is a speculative investigation research. The purpose of
this research are (1) to provide and to understand of HRM history and current
HR practices in the Philippines (2) to examine the extent of HRM practice
among its Philippine firms effectively; (3) to investigate the relationship between
HRM practice and firm performance in the Philippines. The survey was done to
233 companies in the Philippines. The questionnaire is divided into three parts a)
to gathers information on the profile of respondent, b) to measures the extent to
which human resource practices are being practiced in their organization c) to
measure the organizations performance as perceived by human resource
managers and top executives as compared with their competitors in the same
industry. As a result an interesting finding was that almost 50 percent of firm
performance is affected by the extent of implementation of HR practices in the
firm. These results show that HR practices that are in line with the organization’s
strategic goals are important for future performance.

Reaction:

This paper attempts to explore the extent of implementation of HR

practices among companies in the Philippines and to establish a relationship
between HR practices and firms’ performance. An interesting finding was that
almost 50 percent of firm performance is affected by the extent of implementation
of HR practices in the firm. These results show that HR practices that are in line
with the organization’s strategic goals are important for future performance.

Although this study has shown the importance of human resource

management practices for organizational performance, it does have its
limitations. Firstly, this study has been conducted in one national context
(Philippine) and was limited to central Philippines. Hence the findings and
conclusions drawn from this research are representative of the Philippines
context only. In addition, this study only includes the views of HR managers and
top executives, and hence may only provide perceptions of the management
point of view. Therefore, it is recommended that researchers include the
perceptions and views of other employees in order to provide a more holistic
view of this study. Lastly, this study also recommends further research to
incorporate other moderating variables such as the legal and regulatory
environment and organizational characteristics
Overall, I came to realize that the effectiveness of implementing HR
practices in a company does indeed have a major impact towards a firm’s
performance. The finding shows that HR practices have an impact of nearly 50
percent on firm performance. Thus, this form of analysis could help
organizations to realize and be more aware of the importance of human resource
practices and the need to integrate and align HR into the firm’s strategic plan.
