I. RATIONALE

Community engagement is the process of inviting community members into the decision-

making process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate solutions to issues that affect their daily

lives and environments. Centered around trust, communication, and collaboration, community

participation focuses on the needs, expectations, and desires of community members. Effective

engagement processes can help build trust within communities, ensure efficient implementation of

decisions, and result in better allocation of services.

As humanities and social science students, we came to implement programs that could help

communities that are in dire situations so that we could provide solutions to the challenges and

problems that they are facing. We chose Sitio Tolosa, Brgy. Saravia, Koronadal City, where we

conducted our survey and decided to provide the community with groceries.

We prepared different programs for the community to participate in and enjoy as beneficiaries.

Each activity has its own specific goals, and every divided group task was acquired.

II. OBJECTIVES

A. To assist those who are living in poverty in restoring and improving their social needs.

B. To help the residents of Sitio Tolosa and build “communities of solidarity” through actual

community work by giving them grocery packages.

C. Provide opportunities outside of the classroom that promote giving, sharing, and helping in

the community.

III. DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM

Distribution of grocery packages is designed to provide communities with low-income families

with assistance. Our grocery packages consist of 1 kilo of rice, two canned bottles of sardines,

and two packs of beef noodles, which are to be distributed in our chosen community, Sitio Tolosa,

Brgy. Saravia, Koronadal City, and South Cotabato

IV. METHODOLOGY

The researchers conducted the survey at Sitio Tolosa, Brgy. Saravia, Koronadal City, wherein

we gathered a total of twenty household respondents. In order to implement the program, we had

to undergo different measures and procedures in order to ensure its success. First, we issued a

letter of courtesy to the barangay officials of the said place and prepared the survey

questionnaires. The prepared instrument was divided into three parts. The first part is raising

awareness about the health program and services. The second part is the extent of people's

claims of availability, and lastly, the third part is the effectiveness of the implementation strategy.

Later on, the researchers conducted the survey and tallied the answers of the respondents, as

well as evaluating their comments and suggestions. After the evaluation, the researchers picked

the most common problem in the community based on the results of the survey.

Lastly, the researchers came up with a program that aimed to help the community by giving

them grocery packages to help sustain their daily necessities. We also estimated the possible

budget and expenses needed to conduct the free grocery packages for Sitio Tolosa.

IX. INSIGHTS

The Great Reflection of Erll

By: Estorninos, Erll Jee

To address problems and enhance the well-being of their

community, people and organizations must engage in
community work. It entails cooperation, active engagement,
and a dedication to bringing about constructive change.

As members of society, community involvement has significantly impacted us. It encourages a

sense of connection and belonging while enabling the development of solid connections with our
fellow community members.
Our community is affected by challenges like poverty, environmental concerns, and social
inequality, which we can recognize and address through engagement. This may result in favorable
adjustments, a better quality of life, and a stronger sense of group empowerment.

Additionally, community involvement fosters the growth of crucial life abilities, including leadership,
communication, and problem-solving. In addition to advancing the community as a whole, it offers
chances for individual development and education.

To be an effective people and a helper to our fellow citizens and our society, we need to have the
standing of human behavior, culture, history, society, and the world around us. This is especially
true for those of us studying the humanities and social sciences, where the majority of us want to
work as social workers or as public servants.

This community participation topic has been both demanding and stressful for me. We initially
carried out surveys everywhere we could think of where people could need assistance in
expressing their demands within their communities, and only then did we decide where the
greatest need for assistance and ears prepared to listen to their problems lay. Third, we collected
money to cover our costs as we built a program that met the criteria for our chosen distinction, and
ultimately, we launched our program. Yes, it is demanding and exhausting, but it's also a
wonderful and unique experience that has undoubtedly benefited and touched me in a variety of
ways.

My understanding of various communities has improved thanks to our community participation

program. I get to encounter and comprehend various viewpoints and ways of life when I interact

with various communities. I can become a more informed and sympathetic member of society by
having a better awareness of diversity. As a Humss student, where leadership roles are frequently
required for community engagement, it also helps me hone my leadership abilities. We learn new
skills through this experience, including teamwork, organization, and communication.

Moreover, community involvement can significantly influence how people develop as humans.
Participating in our community helps us develop empathy, compassion, and understanding for
those around us. Additionally, it contributes to the development of our sense of community and
belonging, which in turn increases our emotional stability and self-confidence.

We learn to value individual differences and cultivate regard for people and the numerous
viewpoints they bring as we connect with folks from various backgrounds. A sense of duty and
responsibility toward our fellow citizens is promoted through participation in our community and
volunteering in particular. This understanding of the importance of giving back to society is a
result.

As a result of our involvement in the community, we are also made aware of societal problems
and issues that we might not otherwise be aware of, like homelessness, poverty, and social
exclusion. We become more socially conscious as a result of this experience, and we become
more eager to take initiative and contribute to finding solutions.

In general, community involvement is crucial for developing livable, lively, and healthy
communities. For students, it may be a very gratifying experience because it offers chances for
personal growth and skill development while having a beneficial influence on the community. It
also builds a sense of duty and devotion to our fellow community members.

The part of successful immersion

By: Nomananap,Harold John

As part of our subject Community Engagement we conduct activity is an outreach program

activity for children and parents. Through this Activity we the Student researchers are able to
practice our formation of being men and women as well as preparation of become professional
someday in our way to the realities we faced when we do the survey in every household even we
get tired were still standing and facing it. With the help of our subject teacher Sir. Angelbert
Tanalgo and with the coordination of our classmates and with the permission of the people of sitio
tolosa, brgy. Saravia. When I see children enjoying the program that is why I really enjoyed the
half-day outreach program. I realized how an experience could be extraordinary by simply being
with the less fortunate and making them happy even for a while.

Immersion outreach program is a new experience for us. We are glad to have the chance to
experience it. Through this immersion outreach program, we are given opportunities to have an
exposure and be familiarizing to the real work place, thus giving us a firsthand experience,
wherein we are able to apply our learned competencies in school, as well as, provide us chance to
get along with the community and connect with the people. It was fulfilling since we had the
chance to extend a help to thecommunity. Immersion somehow gave us venue to improve
ourselves, make us realized thatlearning is a continuous process, and there are more challenges
to face in the real world.

There were much things that happened, this experience was truly unforgettable and memorable
more than we imagined it to be, like what was written on our narrative essay. Like emotions things
are not always the same, we experience difficulties problems and have also done so much
mistakes.. It is completely different when you report on classroom, it has many things that should
be considered and shouldn’t take for granted. The things that happened gave us a realization that
a children were used to be happy and appreciatable in just simple things. The only thing that they
gave attention was there happiness that they shared together.

Bringing back the past memories of childhood gives happiness, because it’s the time that we
manage to do simple things and there were no problems to think. A child who used to be innocent
and loving. The connection and the bond that take place during the immersion the immersion is
not only for classmates but as a family as well, like a family we live together in one room and even
shared things together, the utensils, the experience and the memory that strengthen our bond.
Like a family we managed to have instinct obligations need to obey and if we fail to obey those

obligations properly we will be affected as a whole, So we need to do our part carefully while
considering the effects of our actions. Like a family during the immersion we care to each other
and help each other if we can.

I became inspired to persevere more in life so that I can be a big help for the less fortunate. It was
very fulfilling that in our own simple ways we were able to help and made the children feel that
some people care for them through this program. Even though it only lasted for a day, the laughter
we shared would always remain in my heart. It was neither the food nor the games we played that
made the outreach memorable but the smiles in every child's face which made it more valuable.
Seeing those smiles made me realize that the activity was a success, worth-doing.

As a whole the immersion become successful and happy even we have encountered problems
and difficulties. It’s a pleasure to experience those things, being able to help the community and
putting ourselves to different task in able to serve. Those memories and experiences we have
during the immersion has been memorable and unforgettable enough to make to treasure. The
immersion bring us to the real field, a field which has given us challenges and does not make
things easy for us. But those challenges that we have experienced will make us stronger and
tougher to surpass and pass more difficult challenges that will come to our lives.

It also teaches us many things and made us discover more things about ourselves,The immersion
helped us a lot. It gives us realization about things and reflection to ourselves. It made us reflect
the things that we have done whether it causes bad or good to us.The things that we have
experienced from the immersion teached us many lessons. And made us realized the importance
of immersion and how it is powerful enough to change our lives.

The outreach program made me realize that somehow in some simple ways, we could bring
happiness to others. We could make a meaningful day by doing good deeds for other people.
Being with the children was such a great feeling for me especially when we made them laugh. I
would cherish that moment as one of the best moments I've ever had. Having the opportunity to
interact with the less fortunate children gave me an additional learning in life. I have learned
through them that happiness and contentment are choices. We have our freedom to choose.

“IGNITING A COLLECTIVE SPARK”

BY GUANZON, RONN BRYAN D.

Community engagement holds the transformative power to bridge gaps, uplift voices, and
cultivate meaningful connections within societies. As I reflect upon my recent experience in a
community engagement project, I am compelled to delve into the profound impact it had on me
personally and the community I had the privilege to work with. Engaging with a community goes
far beyond mere interaction, it encompasses actively listening to its members, understanding their

their input was crucial in shaping the initiatives we undertook. This experience reinforced my belief
in the

power of inclusive and participatory approaches to community development, where every voice is
not only heard but also actively included in the decision-making process.

The community taught me to appreciate the strength in their unity, as they tirelessly worked
together to shape a better future for themselves and their children. My community engagement
experience has been a transformative journey, both personally and professionally. It has
deepened my understanding of the power of human connection, the significance of collaboration,
and the need for inclusive and participatory approaches to community development. As I continue
on my path as an agent of change, I am committed to utilizing the valuable lessons learned to

The Unforgettable Immersion

By:Gutierrez, Stephanie L.

When we were in Saravia to do the survey, we saw many families who were poor and there were
also wealthy families. That day was tiring but we had to do something to help the poor families
from Saravia even with our little help. We also surveyed several families in the Saravia area, the
Saravia area is also beautiful because their water is a water spring. We also had many
experiences such as crowding in a multicab, hot weather, thirst, hunger and many others. But
somehow we also had fun even though there were so many encounters when we went to
barangay saravia.

But no matter how hot the weather was, we were able to help other families who needed our help
to be delivered to them and because of the help of each member of our group, we were able to do
it. And also because of the help and permission of the barangay chief of sitio tolosa, brgy Saravia
and also because of the permission. And we also need to do this so that we can experience
helping other people, and it was also a happy day when we surveyed the houses because
everyone we surveyed was kind.

The outreach program was fun because we experienced interacting with young people even
though they are naughty but as a child it is normal to be naughty because while you are young
you should enjoy yourself. We were also given the opportunity to get to know each of them
immersion somehow gave us venue to improve ourselves, make us realized thatl earning is a

some of the most important lessons in life. These valuable lessons give you an insight into the
basic fundamentals of a good life. They toughen you up so that you can take the ups and downs
in your stride. You learn what truly matters and is worth running behind.

And the immersion gives those memories and experiences we have during the immersion have

competencies in school, as well as, provide us chance to get along with the community and
connect with the people. It was fulfilling since we had the chance to extend a help to the

the harsh realities of life and find happiness in little things. You don't need materialistic things like
dining out or indulging in retail therapy for one fleeting moment of happiness. Instead, you invest
time and effort in more meaningful things.

Does family is one such teacher that can impart lessons on how to live a more meaningful life.
Often you run after the wrong things but don't have the realization. A sense of duty and

remain a treasure for each of us. And even though there were many challenges that we
experienced, it was ignored when we were about to finish our immersion program.

And we are thankful to our teacher, Sir Angelbert Tanalgo, because he gave us an experience
that we will never forget. And that's it for the people who helped us. And we are thankful that we
learn new skills through this experience, including teamwork, organization, and communication.

An Eye-Opening Journey of Empathy and Growth

By: Sandara Pauya

Community service immersion programs offer a unique opportunity to fully immerse oneself in the
lives and experiences of others, creating a profound impact on personal growth and
understanding. Having recently participated in a community service immersion program, I
embarked on a transformative journey that challenged my preconceived notions, fostered
empathy, and deepened my connection to humanity.

Before embarking on the community service immersion program, I held certain expectations about
the experience. I anticipated engaging in service work, contributing my skills, and making a
positive difference in the lives of others. However, what I didn't anticipate was the extent to which
this journey would change me on a fundamental level.

One of the most powerful aspects of the community service immersion program was the
opportunity to engage with a different culture. Living and working alongside individuals from the
community allowed me to gain a firsthand understanding of their values, traditions, and
challenges. It shattered any preconceived stereotypes and fostered a deep appreciation for the
richness and diversity of human experiences.

Immersing oneself in the lives of others cultivates a profound sense of empathy. Witnessing the
struggles, hopes, and dreams of the individuals we served ignited a deep emotional connection
within me. Through personal interactions and shared experiences, I discovered common threads
that bind us all as human beings. This newfound empathy transcended cultural and societal
differences, fostering a genuine connection that transformed my perspective on the world.

Community service is a form of voluntary work undertaken to address the needs and challenges
faced by communities. It involves actively engaging with individuals, organizations, and projects
that aim to improve society's well-being. Throughout my recent experience with community
service, I have come to realize its profound impact not only on the lives of those we serve but also

Before engaging in community service, I had a limited perspective on the issues faced by various
segments of society. I lived within the confines of my own bubble, oblivious to the struggles faced
by individuals from different backgrounds. However, participating in community service initiatives
has allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and develop a profound sense of empathy and
understanding.

One of the most significant benefits of community service is the opportunity to interact with diverse
groups of people. By working closely with individuals from various socioeconomic backgrounds,

cultures, and age groups, I gained a deeper appreciation for the unique challenges faced by
different communities. These interactions shattered stereotypes and broadened my understanding
of the world, fostering a sense of unity and compassion.

Engaging in community service also provided me with invaluable skills that extend beyond the
scope of traditional education. Through hands-on experiences, I honed my communication,
teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. Collaborating with others who shared a common goal
taught me the importance of effective communication, compromise, and the power of collective
effort. These skills are not only applicable to community service but also extend to various aspects
of life, including academics, career, and personal relationships.

Community service has the remarkable ability to remind us of the privileges we often take for
granted. Witnessing the resilience and determination of individuals facing adversity instilled in me
a profound sense of gratitude for the blessings in my own life. It humbled me, reminding me that a
helping hand can make a significant difference in someone's life, no matter how small the act may
seem.

There is a unique fulfillment that comes from serving others selflessly. Community service allows
us to witness the positive impact of our actions firsthand, fostering a sense of purpose and
satisfaction. Contributing to the betterment of society not only benefits those in need but also
provides us with a deeper sense of personal fulfillment and happiness.

In conclusion, community service is a transformative experience that has the power to change
lives, both of those who receive assistance and those who provide it. By stepping outside our
comfort zones, engaging with diverse communities, and developing valuable skills, we can create
a ripple effect of positive change. I urge everyone to embrace the opportunity to engage in
community service, no matter how small or large, as it has the potential to shape us into
compassionate, empathetic, and active contributors to a better world.

The GREAT among the GREATEST

Our outreach program was a resounding success, leaving me with a profound sense of joy and
fulfillment. Witnessing the genuine happiness and enthusiastic participation of the children
involved in the program was incredibly heartwarming. It felt as if I had been transported back to
my own childhood, reminiscent of the challenges and joys that shaped me. However, despite the
overall success, I cannot overlook the disappointment caused by the lack of respect and
consideration from the Sitio Tolosa residents. Nevertheless, I am grateful for the achievements of
our program and the positive impact we were able to make.

Our preparation wasn't easy; we had a lot of fights, excuses, problems, and any other challenges
and concerns that we had. There were too many errors and disappointments, But we didn't stop
there; we even lost hope that we could perform the outreach program successfully because of
what was happening. Our group is group 5, which is supposedly assigned for Hygiene kits, but Sir
Tanalgo said that we should just emerge to another group so that we can still hold the budget for
every program. We agreed with him and decided to emerge in the group that we thought had the
heaviest part of the program, which is the grocery give-away. The preparation before the outreach
program is a total chaos because one group, which is the group of Gran, had a huge fight
because of the lack of information; they didn't even have the time to communicate with their plan,
which also delayed us at the time. Both groups made mistakes Because ate gumbing didn't share
her idea with their group leader, and Gran, as a group leader, didn't inform ate gumbing about the
overall budget plan. We just made a face with the current scenario at that time, and it was a
headache for the rest of the Group.

On the Preparation before the program, we also had a problem in communication, especially
when the other group leader and facilitator didn't facilitate the design and they passed it to our
vice president, so as a leader, I just went with her, and also Amor came along. We will ride a bus
together to go to Sitio Tolosa. It was a complete problem for us because it's already 8 a.m., some

malls are closed, and our time is running out. They even didn't facilitate the coupon. It was
Sunday, so most of the stores or even merchandise were closed.

Before the emerging happened, we already faced a crucial problem within our group when Kuya
Randy didn't go to school or missed his every subject. He is our group leader, so it was a burden
for us. I decided to take over his role as a leader, and I made sure that our group and my group
members would have a comfortable atmosphere with me. I tried my best to be the best leader

they have. Gladly, until the end of our outreach program, we never fought or even had a problem
with each other. I was so happy, and that was a great achievement for me.

As our outreach program unfolded, it became evident that the effect it had on the children was
beyond measure. Their faces lit up with pure happiness, their laughter echoed through the air, and
their excited voices filled the atmosphere. It was as if all their worries were momentarily forgotten,
replaced by genuine joy. Witnessing their happiness was a transformative experience, reminding
me of the simple joys that often get lost in the complexities of adulthood. The innocent smiles on
their faces were a testament to the power of compassion and the difference we can make in
someone's life.

Observing the children in Sitio Tolosa reminded me of my own childhood and the challenges I
faced growing up. I was able to relate to their experiences, their dreams, and their aspirations. It
struck me how fortunate I was to have overcome obstacles and pursued my dreams, and it
motivated me to provide support and encouragement to these children. Seeing them eagerly
participate in our program made me feel a deep connection to their journey, as if I was witnessing
my own past unfold before my eyes. It reinforced my belief that each child, regardless of their
circumstances, deserves a chance to thrive and grow.

While the success of our outreach program brought immense joy, there was also a cloud of
disappointment due to the lack of respect and consideration displayed by some of the Sitio Tolosa
residents. Despite their knowledge of our program and the positive impact it could have on their
community, they showed disregard for our efforts. Their lack of cooperation and appreciation for
the opportunities we were providing was disheartening. However, I choose to believe that change
takes time, and perhaps our presence and dedication will eventually foster a sense of unity and
respect within the community.

In spite of the disappointment, I cannot discount the overwhelming feeling of happiness and
fulfillment that our outreach program brought me. The opportunity to make a positive impact by
sparking a child's imagination, providing education, and instilling hope is immeasurable. We were
able to create memorable moments, form connections, and uplift the spirits of those in need. The
visible transformation in the children's faces, as they discovered new possibilities, is a testament
to the value of outreach programs and the power of collective efforts. The sense of

accomplishment fills me with gratitude, knowing that we were able to overcome challenges and
come together to make a real difference.

Participating in our outreach program was a journey that evoked overflowing happiness and
heartfelt emotions. Witnessing the children's happiness and engagement reminded me of the
importance of fostering hope and providing opportunities for all children, regardless of their
circumstances. While disappointed by the lack of respect from some Sitio Tolosa residents, the
overall success of our program fills me with satisfaction and gratitude. This experience has fueled

my determination to continue working towards creating a better future for these children and
others in need.

Embarking on a journey of helping and leading has brought immeasurable joy into my life. The
ability to make a positive impact in the lives of others is a privilege that I cherish deeply.
Throughout my experiences, I have learned valuable lessons that have shaped not only my
perspective on leadership but also my understanding of the power of compassion. This reflection
aims to explore the immense happiness that comes from helping and leading, share a valuable
lesson I have learned along the way, and encourage others to embrace the joy of making a
difference.

The joy I experience when I help and lead others is unparalleled. It comes from the deep
satisfaction of knowing that I have played a role, no matter how big or small, in improving
someone's life or making a positive impact on a community. This happiness is derived from
witnessing the transformation in others – seeing them grow, succeed, and overcome challenges
with the support and guidance I have provided. The radiant smiles, expressions of gratitude, and
genuine appreciation from those I help propel me forward and remind me of the immense reward
that lies in serving others.

One valuable lesson I have learned through my journey of helping and leading is the importance
of empathy and connection. It is not enough to simply go through the motions of providing
assistance; true impact is made by forming meaningful connections with those we serve. Taking
the time to understand their stories, challenges, and dreams fosters a sense of empathy that
allows us to provide more effective support. By forging genuine connections, we can create an
environment where individuals feel understood, valued, and empowered. This lesson has not only
enriched my capacity to lead but has also brought forth deeper and more fulfilling relationships
with those I assist.

I wholeheartedly encourage everyone to embrace the joy of helping and leading to help. Never
underestimate the power of your actions, no matter how small they may seem. Every act of
kindness and every effort to lend a helping hand makes a difference – both for others and for
ourselves. Embracing this joy not only cultivates a sense of purpose but also sparks a ripple

effect, inspiring others to follow in your footsteps and create positive change. Together, we can
build a better world by collectively channeling our energy and talents to uplift those in need.

In closing, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all those who have supported and encouraged me
throughout my journey of helping and leading especially to my group members. Your belief in my
abilities and your unwavering support have been instrumental in helping me achieve the
happiness and fulfillment that come from serving. Let us continue to stand together, guided by
compassion and driven by the joy of making a difference in the lives of those around us. May we
inspire and uplift one another, knowing that by doing so, we are creating a brighter and more
compassionate world for all.
