STATEMENT OF THE NEED

The issue that we want to address as a group is improper waste

management that becomes even more problematic and left unsolved by our

government. The proposed plan that we have is necessary as we do believe

that It calls attention for each community member to at least educate

themselves and as well as teach them to at least break their undisciplined habit

of disposing of waste instead instilling to them that we should be responsible

enough as its consequence always make us suffer and pay. Also, to inform the

local government that even in simple ways and means of funding and funding

into items that will benefit the whole member and urge their eagerness to seek

for cleanliness and for the betterment of the society.

The one who will be beneficial to the said project is both us the main

proponents of this plan and also the community in totality. We, the proponents

of the action plan wherein we shared our experiences and as well as our

knowledge in the field and to be a helping hand and voice to the community

by seeking partnership and cooperation of public funding needed to buy such

goods that are based on one's need. Also, the community itself wherein by

encouraging them to turn waste into art and from that they can know how to

appreciate the value of using trash turning into wonderful stuff which they can

be used in the confines of their home. Aside from this encouragement they can

manage to access their basic needs by joining the activities and tasks that the

group will introduce to them each week and by each task, there is a

corresponding prize or goods they can receive.

According to the publication made by the Senate of the Philippines, the

country's waste generation continues to rise with an increase in population,

improvement of living standards, rapid economic growth, and industrialization,

especially within the urban areas. The National Solid Waste Management

Commission (NSWMC) calculated that from 37,427.46 tons per day in 2012, the

country’s waste generation steadily increased to 40,087.45 tons in 2016 with an

estimated average waste generation of 0.40 kilograms per day for both urban

and rural. The National Capital Region (NCR), needless to say, generated the

largest volume of wastes for the past five years due to its population size, an

even bigger number of establishments, and modernized lifestyle. With an

estimated population of 12 million people, Metropolitan Manila generated

9,212.92 tons per day of wastes in 2016. To support the gathered data above, it

is very evident that some communities or barangay are facing the same social

problem specifically, Barangay Sauyo in Quezon City, Barangay 254 Zone 23,

Bambang Tondo Manila, Barangay 145 Ilaw Street Balut Tondo in Manila and

lastly, on Barangay Anoling General Nakar Quezon.

PROJECT ACTIVITY, METHODOLOGY AND OUTCOMES

Project Activity

Title: Pondonasyon para sa Luntiang Juan

Being creative using such waste materials seems to be beneficial and to

at least apply the concept of 3Rs. While doing such craft they will enhance their

capacity to use other materials that surround them and make that waste into

the best stuff by using their skills and other activities that encourage them to

become more reflective on appreciating the ways and means to properly

dispose the waste, aside from this, goods or essential items will wait for them as

they finish each task and activity that the group will introduce to them. The

hand and hand cooperation between the group proponents of this action plan

between the community officers make great funding and donation possible just

to pursue people to properly dispose their waste and turn their environment into

a green one or a healthy one. Most likely the target is the community members

specifically, elders, adolescents, and children at their young age who have their

willingness to participate, learn and receive such items that are essential to

them.

We chose to address this topic because it is always a problem in our

country's barangays or communities that is still unsolved because other

individuals lack discipline, making it tough to resolve. One of them is that they

have no idea how to solve the garbage problem, so they simply chuck and

dump garbage everywhere. The behavior of people when it comes to waste

First Semester - SY 2021-2022 Page 4

management is the root of the problem. Some people are unconcerned about

the environment and simply put their waste wherever they choose. They do not

consider the potential consequences of their actions on the environment and

negative causes to their health. Each barangay or community has its own

organization to deal with the garbage problem. For example, the community

-wide organization of 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) or the placement of

containers for plastic bottles in every corner that can be sold to make a profit,

and the government’s payment of workers hired to clean the community

members. Despite this, waste disposal occurs due to lack of public discipline,

and as a result, the waste problem persists. No one in charge can fix their place

if the people themselves do not know how to take part in discovering the waste

problem and its solution.

In the first week, we have the first two tasks the one is art-making that we can

call Trashy Make it Flashy, They will turn solid waste into personal trash bins. There

will be chosen 3 individuals for this task and another task will be Mini-Song and

Dance Contest, participants most likely children will sing the pieces that my

colleagues and I will share with them and they will form such a group just to sing

and to create such dance steps on the song. To carry out the activities or tasks

that the members of the community will be responsible for. The people who will

be involved are my colleagues and I together with community officers and the

target community members for the task of elders, adolescents, and children at

their young age. Also, within this week we are going to remind people about the

activity and task for week 4.

In the second week, we have the objective that to discuss and introduce the

leaders to the proposed plan and observe the community. Proposing or

recommending the amount needed for the action plan and other goods to

offer to the people within the community. What we will do here is to visit the

community and talk to its leaders and thoroughly discuss and plan for financial

investment. The persons involved in this activity are my colleagues and I

together with the officers of the community.

In the third week, we need to buy and gather the goods or items needed for

this activity. What we also need to do is arrange funds and canvass such goods

or items as a reward for community members to encourage them to participate

in the activity we are doing. the person who will be involved in the activity, me

and my colleagues.

In the fourth week, we have an activity that we can call When in Doubt, Don't

Throw it Out!. All they have to do is to collect such solid waste and together with

the community officer and the group proponents of the action plan, they will

create such mechanics or the minimum numbers of solid waste that they can

bring to the community purpose hall. As they follow the mechanics mindfully,

they can be rewarded by corresponding prizes such as essential goods. What

we will do here is to execute the activity or tasks that the community members

will need to accomplish. The people involved in this activity are my colleagues

and I, community officers, and the target community members for the task of

elder, adolescents, and also with the help of children.

In the fifth week, we will observe and examine the project if it is work and know

the impacts of those activities by engaging and talking to those who

participated in making those tasks or activities. My colleagues and I will allow

them to discuss their opinions vocally, or they may write the impacts or lessons

learned from the activities/tasks that have been allocated to them, and

community members will reflect on their harsh actions toward their surroundings

as a result of this. What we will do here is to assess, evaluate, and list the

realizations that the community member had when doing those activities/tasks.

The persons involved in this task are my colleagues and I, community officers,

and the target community members for the task elder adolescents, and also

with the help of children.

Outcomes

● Community members appreciate the value of waste by turning it into art

or something decorative and useful to them.

● Community member will expect to become participative to join the

activities and tasks that the group introduce and assign on them per week

as such goods or essential items will become a reward for fulfilling those

task.

● Community members will become aware that this waste impacts the

environment making it more healthy and well-organized.

DISSEMINATION

The advertisements we made were flyers and posters. We will encourage

each person by giving a flyer to each barangay that will be distributed to the

people, whether they are elderly or young, to encourage them to participate in

the activity that will be done in this action plan. Posters can be posted in each

barangay, which will serve as a way for them and for us to wake people up to

this social problem.

The first advertisement we did was the flyer on which was placed what we

call the "cycle leaf." That cycle leaf means the cycle of activity of each citizen in

a barangay. And the "come and join" state is to encourage them to participate

in this activity. We also put a number for the barangay to call in case there is a

question about the activity.

In the second advertisement are the 2 posters, the first poster is for a short

poem that can be sung by children. It is for children to encourage them to

recycle. And the second poster is to encourage barangays, NGOs, LGUs, and

other government sectors to allocate funds and donations for this action plan

and also for the issue of waste management in each barangay. They can also

provide activities for each community so that they are even more aware of this

social problem.

These advertisements will help us to make our action plan beautiful and

orderly, as it will also be a way to show the citizens the words that can enlighten

them through simple flyers and posters.

REVISIONS FROM Ma’am Maureen E. Peñaverde

Adjust the timeline of the activity. As much as possible the tasks /activities that

are being done within week 3 can be done as early as week 1. While discussing

and introducing the proposed plan and observing the community and as well

as proposing or recommending the amount needed for the action plan to buy

and gather the goods or items needed for the assigned tasks and activities will

happen within weeks 2 & 3.

Posters within this SPARKS Paper must be personalized and as much as possible

faces of the group members will be placed on it.
